Song Name: I Feel a Song (In My Heart)

Composer: Camillo- Sawyer

Release Date: November 1974

Record Label: Buddah

Chart Peak Position: Pop: 21 and R&B: 1

The beat of this song gets me moving my head as soon as I hear it. Gladys Knight has a very good voice that is deep and makes me just want to sing the song like she does. When I listen to this song, Gladys sounds like she enjoys singing it because it sounds like she is singing it from the bottom of her heart. Because she gives the song that feeling to me, I enjoy listening to this song and I believe that is why other people enjoy listening to it also. It is a very good songs to try to sing along and pretend you are Gladys Knight.

Artist Name: Rufus & Chaka Khan

Song Name: You Got the Love

Composer: Khan-Parker

Release Date: December 1974

Record Label: ABC

Chart Peak Position: Pop: 11 and R&B: 1

This is a funk song to me that just gets my body moving as soon as I heard the first beat of it. When she starts singing the song, it just adds the finishing touch to the song.  Her voice is perfect for the lyrics she is singing; through her voice it makes it seem how she actually feels. A lot of songs about love are slow and soothing; however this is an upbeat one which makes it interesting.  She makes it fun to hear a song about love because she is singing about how she loves someone and she wants him to give her the strength to keep going on.

 Artist Name: B. T. Express

Song Name: Express

Composer: Lomas-Risbrook-Rowe-Thompson-Ward-Woods

Release Date: February 1975

Record Label: Roadshow

Chart Peak Position: Pop: 4 and R&B: 1

I feel that this song is an awesome song to just sit down, relax and listen to because it puts you in a good mood and makes you feel good. The beat just gets in your body and lets your body go with it. At the beginning you hear a train sounds so you know it is referring to a train which means that you are traveling. Since there are no lyrics at the beginning, it makes your imagination wonder with the beat and could make your imagination think about many different things because it has the train sound in it. Then you hear the lyrics about a train so you think about going other places, it could make you think about going to places you have always dreamed of going.

 Artist Name: Hot Chocolate

Song Name: Emma

Composer: Brown-Brown

Release Date: March 1975

Record Label: Big Three

Chart Peak Position: Pop: 8 and R&B: 1

The use of the instruments in this song is really good and catch ones ear. It provides a very hard opening of the song before the lyrics kick in.  This is a song about a girl names Emily and he calls her Emma who he is in love with. Having the hard instrumental displays his feelings inside; showing how hard and dark they are. It is a slow song, a love song with the lyrics being sad about a girl match the harsh beat of the instrumentals. His love for Emily is making him go crazy in life because he doesn’t know what to do with himself without her.

 Artist Name: Gwen McCrae

Song Name: Rockin’ Chair

Composer: Willie Clarke, Clarence Reid

Release Date: June 1975

Record Label: Cat

Chart Peak Position: Pop: 9 and R&B: 1

This song immediately brought back memories of my mother rocking me to sleep on the rocking chair that we had in the family room.  Every night my mother would rock me to sleep on the rocking chair; nonetheless, this got to the point where I would not fall asleep unless I was being rocked on the chair.  This is a very touching song to me and makes me feel good when I hear it because it reminds me of my childhood and how close I was with my mother. I can just lie down and listen to this song over and over again because it has such a calming beat to me.

 Artist Name: Curtis Mayfield

Song Name: So In Love

Composer: Curtis Mayfield

Release Date: July 1975

Record Label: Curtom

Chart Peak Position: Pop: 67 and R&B: 9

This is a great song because the artist is expressing how much his woman’s love means to him.  I believe that it is good to let your mate know how much their love means to you every once in a while; even if they already know it, sometimes it is good to say it for reassurance.  Hearing this song makes me want to find my love to make me happy and get the feeling where you are high on love.  This is a rare example of a simple concept of having all of the lyrics on time with the beat creating a good outcome.  This song is very touching, and I definitely enjoyed listening to it.

 Artist Name: The Spinners

Song Name: They Just Can’t Stop It The (Games People Play)

Composer: Hawes-Jeffersons-Simmons

Release Date: August 1975

Record Label: Atlantic

Chart Peak Position: Pop: 5 and R&B: 1

This song sounded very familiar to me when I first heard it but I couldn’t remember why. It has a very good beat that people can just enjoy listening to and I liked it very much when I heard it. After listening to it for a while I remember my father used to always listen to it in the car when I was younger but I haven’t heard it in so long. This song was on a CD and he used to always play this one over and over again. I put this song on my IPOD and played it in the car for him again and he started laughing because he immediately remembered how he use to always listen to it.

 Artist Name: Staple Singers

Song Name: Let’s Do It Again

Composer: Staple Singers

Release Date: November 1975

Record Label: Curtom

Chart Peak Position: Pop: 1 and R&B: 1

This song sounds like a very sexual song from the moment it starts. This includes everything from the back ground beat to their voices and the beat gets your body moving to the music. The lyrics also express that sexual vibe as the name of the song is Let’s Do It Again.  I would say this is a good song for couples and at the time this song was released, people were together very young compared today. This is a good song, I enjoyed listening to it and I can definitely see why this song was a number one hit on the charts.

 Artist Name:  Natalie Cole

Song Name: Inseparable

Composer: Jackson-Yancey

Release Date:  December 1975

Record Label: Capitol

Chart Peak Position: Pop: 32 and R&B: 1

This is a lovely ballad that is smooth and soothing. Natalie sings a nice slow love song where she sings about how she can’t live without a guy and they are always together.  I feel that I will never feel like I can’t live without a man in my life; I am independent and I always want to be independent. I would like to have a man in my life that I love very much but not to be inseparable with him for the rest of my life. Natalie sings this song very well; her vocals are great for this song. This is a very sweet song but it is not a song that I will continuously listen to.
