If you trace back the history behind the origin of myths, you would notice that they arise primarily out of ignorance and lack of awareness. But it spreads with unparallel speed. In fact, some myths become so colloquial that it can take the shape of a ritual in many communities. As expected, there are plenty of myths surrounding baldness in men too which have trickled down to us through many decades. With time, more and more complexities and weirdness may have been added but the myths remain as strong as ever even in developed countries of the world.

Let us specifically talk about baldness in men. It is common to conjure up several mental images when you see a completely bald man on the street. Despite the fact that several Hollywood movies have standardized some characteristics of a bald man, including funny, intelligent, cruel, sadistic, and courageous and so on, we still make our own impression about the bald man on the street or when we get introduced to him somewhere. What does all this mean? To put it simply, baldness in men get noticed!

Perhaps this is also a good reason why a host of myths surround male baldness. Starting from something ludicrous (standing on your head can cure baldness) to something incredible (spraying goat urine on the bald areas as a cure) myths about this condition are wide in range. Here are some popular myths around this common condition in men:

  • Bald men are ruthless. This is imagination running wild, thanks to movies which depict most bald men as serial killers, etc. There is absolutely no scientific evidence to prove this.
  • Spraying pigeon droppings can cure male baldness. Are you crazy?
  • Hair growth can be triggered with mild electric shock on the scalp thereby promoting additional blood flow to the region. This is nothing but a shocking piece of news.
  • Baldness can result of continuous use of hats or caps. If this was true we would have a team of bald baseball players.
  • To promote hair growth pluck out grey hairs. These can double the growth of new hair – two in place of one. If this was true, it would be the end of grey-haired men in the world.

The list of myths surrounding baldness in men is endless. Aware and informed individuals may find it ludicrous, but there is a wide section of the population, who firmly believe in such grandma's tales. Remember male pattern baldness can be cured only through medication and hair transplant. The causes behind this condition are many, including hormonal imbalance.
