NBA Title Contenders 2008-2009 Season

By | 4 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

With the recent kickoff of the new NBA season we have been able to get a good look at the teams that look like they are headed towards the playoffs in hopes of achieving NBA greatness. Surely, there will be 16 teams that make the playoffs, so I've tried to narrow things down to my 4 NBA picks that I think will make the semi-finals.

1. LA Lakers (7-0) - Now that 7 footer Andrew Bynum is back and healthy, the Lakers have been able to go on a 7-0 run, including some big wins vs the Houston Rockets and New Orleans Hornets. Plus, they are playing with a chip on their shoulder, which they received from the Celtics last June.

2. Boston Celtics (8-1) - So long as at least two of their 3 superstars show up at gametime, the Celtics will be very tough to beat. Also, something else to consider: if the C's were able to win a championship with their current squad (which hadn't even played together for a year) back in June, how much better should they be with this experience and fusion?

3. Atlanta Hawks (6-1) - These guys have really turned it up and have started the season strong, being 1 of the last 2 undefeated teams (until Tuesday). This group did not disappoint in the finals last year. In fact, they fascinated many people by how well they played against the Celtics and took things to a game 7. They almost beat them away from Atlanta a few days back, only losing to a last second prayer by Paul Pierce. With Joe Johnson playing like an all-star and a year of experience behind their belt, I can really see the hawks going for this year.

4. Houston Rockets (5-3) - Despite their rough start, the Rockets are still lookin good, especially with newly acquired Ron Artest. Artest should help increase their defensive game while Yao, TMac, and Alston should be able to provide sufficient firepower to get them to at least the semi-finals.

Which teams do you think have what it takes to go the distance? The Cavs? Jazz? Express your opinions and let's see what people think.

Now that the Lakers are without Andrew Bynum, yet again, will they still be able to return to the championship round? And now that the Jameer Nelson is out, will the magic have what it takes to go the distance? And what about CP3 who recently injured himself - how will that affect the Hornet's chances?

So it looks the the top 4 teams for now are the Magic, Lakers, Celtics, and the Cavs. But since the season is only half over, anything can happen.
