Naruto, a manga (Japanese comic) book series by Masashi Kishimoto, has been one of the most famous anime (Japanese animation) series around for years now. Since its creation in Japan back in 1999 Shonen JUMP, the series has grown into a full fledged pheneomeon!

What Is It About?

Naruto, the titular main character, is a young ninja whose dream it is to become the next Hokage, or leader of the village of ninja that goes by the name "Village Hidden in the Trees". Cryptic titles aside, the entire village was once ravaged by a mysterious being called the Nine Tailed Beast. The fox like creature was stopped, but not before killing the 4th Hokage. As a matter of fact, the reason that the creature was stopped is because the 4th Hokage sealed it within the main character- Naruto himself! The orphaned Naruto becomes despised by the people of the village because of this, but he never quits trying to become the next Hokage.

Throughout the first part of the series, Naruto befriends Sakura and Sasuke- two very special ninja in their own right. Sakura is a kind hearted young girl brimming with intelligence, and Sasuke is the last heir the village has of one of their most prestigious ninja families; the Uchiha. They are all capable of passing their preliminary tests and becoming Genin, the lowest rank of Ninja, and then they're assigned an instructor, named Hatake Kakashi. He trains them and prepares them for the trials of being a ninja.

The main focus on the first part of the series is Naruto learning more and more about the world of Ninja, and becoming a very skilled shinobi in his own right. However, a tragic twist of fate brings him close to losing one of his friends, which is where the second part of the series, called Naruto: Shippuden picks up after.

Why You Should Read It

It's very hard to find a series as powerful as Naruto. The emotions that it invokes and the entire setup of the series will keep you moving throughout the current saga (the Naruto manga is not completed upon this writing). There's tons of action, whether it between Naruto and ninja from his own village, or from antagonistic outer village shinobi. You'll also laugh quite a bit as you watch Naruto's shenanagins; one of the more famous jokes involves Naruto using a special technique to clone another person... Specifically, a super hot babe! Naruto frequently pulls it out to distract elders of the village with hilarious results! Let's just say "dirty old men" are not out of place in the ninja world!

I highly suggest picking up the series today!
