Why Choose All Natural Skincare Products?

SLS and Paraben Free Cosmetics

Why Choose natural, organic products for your skincare routine?

Simple - because mainstream beauty products still use a lot of chemicals that are best avoided. Did you know that your skin absorbs up to 60% of what ever is put on it? And that what is absorbed goes into the bloodstream?

Cancer and other illnesses which are linked to chemical overlaod in our systems and toxicity of our environment, are on the rise. And although not many people think about it,our environment includes the products we use on our body and face. For the main part people just blindly accept mainstream cosmetics, without giving much thought to what is in that anti wrinkle serum or that cream that they put on their face. I mean, surely they wouldn't be allowed to sell it if it could cause us any harm right? Hmmm, I'm not so sure. I know that mainstream cosmetics are safety tested, as with other products, however humans do have a tendancy to be short sighted and miss the obvious. And remember that these companies are out to make money, NOT to look out for our health and wellbeing.

So it comes down to personal choice. And many women today are choosing to go down the natural and organic route with thier cosmetics and skincare products. I am one of those women. I prefer to chose products without all the extra chemicals. For me I would rather not take the risk. And plus the natural skincare products just feel so good.

In this article we are going to take a look at some of the nastier chemicals in mainstream cosmetics that you will want to avoid, and also have a look at some great all natural skincare products. I will share with you my own natural skincare routine.

What Is Your Skincare Routine?

To keep your skin looking good you need to follow a skincare regime.  I think simple is best.

Simple means:

Cleanse thoroughly last thing at night and moisturize.

Then splash some cold water on your face in the morning to wake your skin up.

Once a week exfoliate (or as needed) and use a good quality, preferably natural, face mask once a month or so to deep cleanse your skin.

Also eat well including lots of fresh fruit and veg, oily fish and other good fats, and drink plenty of water.

That's it! That's all you need to do.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Soduim Laureth Sulfate

Also known as SLS and SLES

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are two ingredients which are used in many mainstream beauty products and cosmetics such as shampoo, bodywash, facewash and toothpastes. They are used to make the products foam up. These two ingredients are linked to many skin problems and are known irritants. They are also thought to be carcinogenic (cancer causing) and the liver has a hard time getting rid of them from your system.

Natural, organic beauty products such as the ones I share here DO NOT contain SLS or SLES.

SLS and SLES go by many other names so it can be hard to determine whether a product contains them by looking at the ingredients list.

Parabens

Parabens are used in mainstream cosmetics as preservatives. They are man made and they are toxic. Parabens have been linked to the development of breast cancer and other types of cancer.  They may also cause problems in the development of babies and children.

Phthalates

Phthalates are hard to avoid because they are regularly described using different names. Phthalates are used to help products be softer and absorb more easily, as a preservative and to make plastic more pliable. unfortunately they are also known endocrine disruptors and have been shown to disrupt the reproductive system among women of child bearing age, and cause other problems because they mimic some of our hormones.

They have also been linked to infertility in both males and females, fetal development and growth/development problems in children. There is a lot of concern about the level of phthalates that are showing up in our bodies, which is in the main case above safe levels.

As it is hard to work out if a product contains phthalates it is best to choose a cosmetic brand that you know to be phthalates free. The one I am sharing here is phthalates free.
