Skin tags can be very embarrassing. The good news is that normally they are benign tumors that won't affect your health. The bad news is that most insurance companies won't foot the bill because a skin tag procedure is viewed as a strictly cosmetic affair and not life threatening. In this article, I am going to go over the various procedures for removing a skin tag. These include the conventional methods for having one removed as well as a natural cure for skin tags. All of these work and chances are good that one may be a method that you can say goodbye to your tag forever.

You should always seek a doctor before you take matters in your own hands. The reason is that moles, freckles, warts and other skin problems can look like a skin tag and some skin disorders are much more serious. If you are unsure of what you are looking at, seek a professional first to diagnose whether it is a skin tag or something more serious.

There is a very rare disorder called Burt Hogg Dube syndrome that can cause skin tags and is believed to cause more serious cancerous tumors internally. It is highly unlikely that you may have this but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

The professional way to remove skin tags

Most people are going to just grin and bear it in terms of having a skin tag. The reason is either the cost or thought of cutting one off their body themselves. However, if you have one and it is around your face or on your eyelid, you will definitely want to have a doctor remove it. If it is elsewhere, then there are plenty of options to remove skin tags.

There are three methods that a doctor will use to remove a skin tag......

The most common is the scalpel procedure. This is relatively painless and simply involves the dermatologist cutting the skin tag off. It is the quickest way to remove a skin tag.

Another method is to freeze a skin tag off the body. Doctors will use this method on a variety of things including moles and warts. It is quick and painless and the skin tag will typically fall off in a couple days.

The final method is to cauterize or burn it off. While this may sound scary, it is really as painless as freezing although you may be sore the next day.

If you have several skin tags, a visit to the doctor is your best bet as they can cut them all off in just a few minutes.

The Natural Cures for Getting Rid of Skin Tags

There is also a natural cure for skin tags. I am going to list two. These can be done within the comfort of your own home and are just as effective as the professional procedures. The only difference is that the natural methods take a bit longer.

The first method is using castor oil. Now before I go into this, understand that castor oil stinks. Because of this, I would recommend that you get some lemon or orange extract oil so that the area apply it to won't smell.

Another thing about castor oil is that you can't apply it directly to the skin tag. Instead, you need to make a paste first. Grab a little baking soda and mix it with the castor oil. It should form a paste.

On the CLEAN area, apply the paste directly on the skin tag. Cover with a bandage and leave on overnight. Reapply up to two times daily until the skin tag falls off and dies.

Another natural cure for skin tags is to use tea tree oil. Tea Tree Oil is used regularly in chinese medicine and is believed to be a drying agent used to dry skin from the inside out. Actually, it has anti fungal properties and is used for a variety of reason including treating scrapes and burns and getting rid of athlete's foot and other fungal problems. Oh, and it is a great herbal remedy for treating skin tags.

To use Tea Tree Oil, all you need to do is to clean the affected area and make sure to dry it thoroughly. Apply a little of the oil on a cotton schwabb or q-tip and then gently massage it directly on the skin tag. You can use this up to 3 times a day and I would keep applying it until the skin tag disappears.

For a quicker removal of the skin tag, tape the tea tree oiled cotton ball with a little medical tape and keep it on until it is time for another application.

Usually, you will notice that you skin tag is gone anywhere between 2-4 weeks.

Other methods for removing skin tags

There are other unconventional methods for removing a skin tag. These include using duct tape to remove one as well as the good old scissors method (a quick cut is all you need). Some people believe that simply putting a band-aid on the surrounding skin will help to remove a skin tag.

Of course, there is natural skin tag remover products available out there such as dermisil or amolis. All of them is only a matter of how quickly you want them to work. Most of the herbal home remedies can take anywhere between 2-4 weeks before you will not see your skin tag.

There are also some other home remedies that seem to work fairly well. Some of them include using apple cider vinegar (much in the same way you would use tea tree oil)

There you have it. A natural cure for treating skin tags that actually work. You can do either treatment alone in your home without anyone knowing what you are doing. Better still, since you didn't visit your doctor, there is no bill making this home remedy a winner. And as before, always seek a doctor to determine that your skin tag is just that...a skin tag and not something more serious.
