By Edited May 4, 2015 0 0

We've all been there before. It's like 3 O clock in the morning and you're still awake. You have to get up to go to work in a couple of hours but you just can't fall asleep. As the clock ticks away, you carefully consider your options for dealing with this problem. A lot of people think that sleep aid medication is really the only way to solve this problem. In this author's ever so humble opinion, there are far better ways to deal with sleep issues. Don't get me wrong, sleeping pills do have their place. I just think that they should be used as a last resort.

So how can we deal with insomnia without medication? Well, there are a couple of different ways. Before we get into this though, I think it's important to let the readers know that I'm not a doctor of any kind. If you are experiencing insomnia and you think it's something serious, you need to see a health care professional. That said, there are a lot of great resources available online as well. Check out a few sites in order to get a couple different opinions. Please keep in mind though, that nothing can replace a face to face meeting with your family doctor. Every sleeping disorder case is a little bit different and the solution for you may be different than the solution for an online reviewer.

That said, there are several natural cures for insomnia that you can try before seeing a doctor. One of the "buzz words" in sleep disorder science these days is "sleep hygiene". Having good sleep hygiene isn't that difficult but it's something that a lot of people don't put a lot of thought into. Here are a few things you can do to improve your chances of getting a good sleep at night. First off, you need to establish a regular sleeping pattern. Insomnia can be caused by irregular sleeping patterns. In order to combat this sleep disorder, you should be getting up and going to bed at the same time every day and night. Over time, your body will learn when to be tired and when it's time to wake up. Watching your diet is another way to improve sleep hygiene. The hours before you go to bed, in particular, are very important. Try to avoid drinking any stimulants in the afternoon. This can be tough for coffee lovers but it's well worth it. It's really a good idea to eat dinner at least 2 hours before you go to bed as well. Instead of eating during this time, try to relax. Enjoy some light jazz music or a humorous book. This will prepare your body for a good night's rest.

These are just a few of the natural cures for insomnia that can help you with mild insomnia. Check out my article on the best over the counter sleep aid for more information... Thanks!
