Natural Makeup for Smart Consumers

By Edited Oct 15, 2016 0 0

Have you heard about the dangerous chemicals manufacturers put in their makeup? With more and more natural products becoming popular in the grocery store and elsewhere, people are beginning to discover what's in the items they use without thinking about everyday. Cosmetics are one of the most common products women use all the time, but not many people know what's in them. That's why natural and organic makeup is becoming so popular.

Before you go buy a bunch of "all natural" or "organic" makeup, you need to understand that these terms are pretty much unregulated. An unscrupulous company can brand their products as "natural" even if they aren't. They could get away with it, too, unless you become an informed consumer. So, when you're shopping for makeup, how do you make sure that the products you're buying aren't harmful to you? How do you know you're really getting "all natural" cosmetics?

The first thing you need to do is to read the labels of the cosmetics you're buying. Read the labels, and become familiar with the substances you don't want on your face. As with food, if you can't pronounce it, you should be skeptical of using it. Some specific things to avoid are parabens and dioxane (including myreth, oleth, and laureth), which have been linked to cancer, as well as formaldehyde and toluene. Also be wary of fragrances and partum. These words can refer to many chemicals, some of which don't qualify as organic. Most of them are synthetic petroleum derivatives, in fact.

Another way to become an informed consumer is to read about the cosmetics you use. As they become more popular, magazines and other periodicals are publishing stories about new products that meet high standards for being natural cosmetics. These days, there are many brands of natural and organic makeup you can choose from. These brands are becoming more and more widely available, so be sure to check your local store.

An important part of being a consumer is being informed about the products we buy. All natural makeup and organic cosmetics are becoming more and more popular, but it's up to us to make sure that the products we use really are good for us and the environment. Take some time to read the labels of the products you buy, and read about them from other sources to be sure you're getting the most from your organic makeup.
