Natural Ways to Treat Diaper Rash

By | 2 Comments | Rating: 1 | |

There are countless creams on the market to treat diaper rash, but many parents want a natural way to treat diaper rash in their babies. There are many easy things you can do during a routine diaper change that can treat and help prevent future diaper rashes. Here are a few common methods parents use to help treat diaper rash.

Fist, you should work to eliminate all sources of irritation so that the diaper rash cycle can be broken. This means that you discontinue using wipes or soaps with fragrance or alcohol, as these ingredients easily irritate fragile baby skin. Try using sensitive baby wipes or simply water and a clean cloth to cleanse your baby.

Make an effort to increase the time your baby is without a diaper. With a newborn, this can result in a lot of messes, but an older baby may be able to go 15 minutes diaper-free in order to let the skin air out. If going sans diaper is not an option for you and your baby, you may also try using a hair dryer at diaper changes to ensure that they skin completely dries. Moist skin is easily irritated, so gently blow your baby dry using a hair dryer set on cool or warm.

If you use cloth diapers on your baby, consider switching the detergent that you wash the diapers in to a perfume and dye free formula. Even if the detergent does not irritate your skin, it might be very irritating to baby's delicate skin and you must take extra measures to keep chemicals off of their skin. Using a detergent that is less harsh can also extend the life of your cloth diapers.
