Even though you may think that having a sinus infection (sinusitis) is just like having a normal cold, this can already start being a problem once the word 'infection' enters the scene.

What is unfortunate is that there are only a few people who can point out the difference between a simple flu or cold and a sinus infection.

Basically, sinusitis starts when the nasal passages are blocked by foreign objects like pollens, or affected by allergies like fungus. Once the nasal passages are blocked, harmful bacteria will attack the lining of the passage leading to infection.

Some of the causes of having a sinus infection are headaches, colds, and breathing problems. One of the best ways to prevent sinusitis from getting worse is by having natural sinus infection remedies.

Using home remedies for this problem is more recommended because these preventions are mainly made of mild components which will not severe the case.

One of the best sinus infection remedies is using ginger compress. In doing this remedy, the root of the ginger plant should be grated and added into boiling water.

The mixture should be simmered for 15 minutes and then strained afterwards. Dip and moisten a clean cloth on the mixture and use it to cover your face to speed up the draining of the nasal blockage.

Grape seed extract and horseradish are other examples of natural sinus infection remedies. The antioxidants of grape seed works well on reducing the inflammation of nasal passages.

So if you want to speed up your healing, you have to take at least 50 milligrams of the extract of this fruit for thrice a day. As for horseradish, one of the pointed causes of pain and swelling of a sinus infection is the buildup of mucus on the passages. This is what exactly horseradish targets.

To make a horseradish remedy, you simply have to mix 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of grinded horseradish together. This solution can be directly drunk for a faster effect.

However, those who experience a burning sensation from direct drinking can also mix it with their meals.

Other certified natural sinus infection remedies are using acupressure and steam vapors. Acupressure involves pressing and massaging some areas around the nose specifically the base and the cheek areas below the eyes.

Applying pressure on these parts does not only relieve pain but also helps in faster draining of blockages. The steam from the steam vapors, on the other hand, also helps on speeding up the draining. You can make an improvised steam vapor by boiling water on a pan and inhaling the steam.
