Sleeping problems affect most of us at some point in our lives, fortunately it is usually a temporary disturbance and in time we get back to a good restful nights sleep and back into a good routing. However for some people this isn't the case and they find that sleepless nights becomes a long term problem.

It is a times like this many people turn to insomnia cures to help them get to sleep. There is a wide range of insomnia cures available over the counter, some are herbal based, others are pharmaceutical. They all promise to help deliver a good nights sleep, and most of them do provide relief from lack of sleep. It might take a bit of trial and error to find a preparation that works for you, as everybody is different, so even if something has been recommended to you by a friend or family, don't be disappointed if it doesn't work, it just means it isn't right for you.

Many people are opting for more natural or alternative cures for sleeping disorders, as more and more people move away from pharmaceutical preparations in favour of more natural remedies. A lot of people have concerns about the possibility of getting addicted to sleeping tablets, and this is actually quite a common problem. It seems the addiction is more psychological than physical though, as many people begin to believe they are unable to sleep without the help of their tablets, therefore when they don't take them they lie awake stressing about the fact they won't be able to sleep without them, a real vicious circle effect.

Aromatherapy can help cure many afflictions, and has been popular for insomnia cures for many years. There are plenty of different approaches you can try to help you get a good nights sleep, some may seem odd, but they are all based around pure, natural ingredients and ideas so there is no risk of harm or addiction.

Lets start with one of the slightly stranger approaches, the Victorians used to either sleep with dill on their pillows or wash their heads with dill before retiring for the night, in Italy apparently natives would sleep with cloves of garlic between their toes. Slightly less strange remedies can be found in mixing honey & apple cider vinegar with some hot water to drink at bedtime. Lettuce and Mandarins are known to contain sleep inducing compounds, so eating these before bed may well help. Hot milk and honey can get restless children off to sleep easily, and for those that don't want to try eating or drinking anything, lavender oil applied either to the pulse points, or sprinkled on your pillow (or both) will help you drift off into a lovely deep sleep.
