Natural ways to avoid the headaches when you are pregnant

Headaches are common to many people. This also includes pregnant women you experience headaches for the first 2 trimesters of their pregnancy period. Headaches although in most of the cases do not lead to any more serious health problems; they are often disturbing and affect our way of life and daily activities. Pregnant women should be extra careful about headaches and take all the precaution measures available to avoid them because during their pregnancy period they are not allowed to take any medication unless otherwise instructed by their doctor.

The good news is that there are natural ways to help treat headaches during pregnancy. These ways can also act as preventive measures and avoid the pain caused by headaches. One such way is to find your pressure points and when you feel headache pain to put some pressure on those points. This of course means that you should be aware of which are your pressure points. The best way to find out is to ask your doctor or a physiotherapist to help you out.

Other natural ways to get rid of headaches during pregnancy are through certain types of foods that are known to help relief headache pain. It should be noted that this may work for some people but may not work for others. These foods include milk and especially salt. Salt help to absorb fluids and thus reduces tension and headache pain.

Aromatotherapy is also another natural you can use to ease your headache pain. Essential oils such as lavender, rosemary and peppermint are known for their special characteristics used to treat various diseases. Try aromatotherapy when you feel that you are about to experience headache pain. This will help you relax and feel better.

Pregnant women get more tired especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimester. This is because their weight increases and their movements become slower. At this stage many women suffer from headaches which are due to poor posture, sitting position and pain on the back, neck and shoulders. A good way to get relief from the pain is massage. Massage relaxes your body and mind. If done by a professional it's even better but you can still massage your head and neck and get instant relief from the headache pain.

As in the case of massage, other relaxation techniques that can provide treatment from headache pain are yoga, medication and deep breathing exercises. Pregnant women can start with deep breathing exercises and then do some yoga or medication. These are harmless ways that will help both the pregnant and the fetus.

It was already mentioned above that headaches during pregnancy needs special treatment. Usually if you have a headache you first take some over the counter pain killers to get relief from the pain. If the pain is continuous you get professional advice from a doctor. For pregnant women things are not so simple. Pregnant should not take any medication because this can be very dangerous for the fetus especially in the first 3 months. They should try and use all the natural ways to avoid the headaches and only if the pain becomes more frequent and intense to get cure from medication, and only after the careful examination and recommendation of a specialist in headaches doctor.
