Navratna or 9 Precious Gemstones of the Nine Planets in Vedic Astrology

Navratna refers to the nine precious gemstones representing the nine planets in Vedic astrology. These nine planets exert their influence on different parts of the body. A weak planet in the horoscope of a person may cause weakness or diseases in the part of the body governed by that planet. But this negative influence of the planet can be balanced by wearing the planetary gemstones. Details of the nine planets, corresponding gemstones and body parts represented by them are given below.

Sun: The gemstone of the Sun is Ruby. This gemstone is said to give fame and name to the wearer. This stone represents the life force.

Moon: The gemstone of Moon is Pearl. Pearl is calming to the mind. This gem is representation of the bone.

Mars: The gemstone of Mars is Red Coral. This stone is said to make one courageous. Coral is representation of the Blood.

Mercury: The gemstone of Mercury is Emerald. This stone is said to improve communication. This stone is representation of the marrow.

Jupiter: The gemstone of Jupiter is Yellow Sapphire. This stone is said to improve the wearer’s financial status. This stone is representation of the flesh.

Venus: The gemstone of Venus is diamond. This stone is said to improve the sexual vigor of the wearer. Diamond is representation of the semen.

Saturn: The gemstone of Saturn is Blue Sapphire. This stone is said to safeguard the wearer from misfortunes. This gemstone is representation of the hair.

Rahu: The gemstone of Rahu is Hessonite. This gem is said to help the wearer to remove obstacles and protect the wearer from misfortunes. This stone is representation of fat.

Ketu: The gemstone of Ketu is Cats Eye. This gemstone is said to protect its wearer against enemies, mysterious dangers and diseases. This stone is representation of skin.

Navratna can also refer to navratna jewelry or the 9 gems jewelry which all the 9 precious gemstones ( or substitute stones) are placed in a sequence as prescribed by the Vedas in a ring or a pendant. Navaratna Jewelry can be worn by anyone and receive the beneficial effects of all the gems.
