Necessary Camping Gear

In order to really enjoy your camping excursions, there are a few basic pieces of equipment that will be required. The first thing you're going to need is some sort of shelter. This is most likely a tent. Tents have been around for a long time. Native American tepees made from sticks and buffalo hides were an early form of a tent. The Mongols created yurts, which were another form of tents, from interlaced branches and an early form of felt made from yak fur. Prehistoric Cro-Magnon man created tenants from Mammoth bones and mammoth hides. It appears as though entire groups lived within these tents, some of which were 98 feet in length.

Once inside your tent, you are going to need a warm place to sleep. A sleeping bag will fill that requirement nicely. Sleeping bags come in three basic forms. The most basic is the rectangular form, although this is not a very efficient form. Rectangular sleeping bags are shaped like a blanket folded in two, with the zipper along the lower and outer edge. The inefficiency of this shape is due to heat loss through the zipper, and the empty spaces of the sleeping bag which do not conform to a person's shape. Newer sleeping bags conform more closely to the body shape of the person in the bag. This eliminates empty spaces within the bag, and retains body heat close to the camper's body. These bags also do not zip all of the way around the edges. A third type of sleeping bag fits a body even more closely, having arms and legs just as a glove has fingers. This retains heat close to the body efficiently and also allows the sleeper to move around freely.

Although sleeping bags come with amazing insulation both natural (down) and synthetic (Thinsulate, etc.) it is still nice for the interior of the tent to be warm. This is accomplished with a camp heater. Some camp heaters, known as hot vent camp heaters, are sited outside of the tent. They are connected to the tent by means of a tube through which warmed air is blown. These heaters cannot burn the tent because they are outside of it, cannot cause carbon monoxide poisoning because harmful vapors and feelings are outside of the tent, and are the safest types of heaters for camping.

Camp heaters are powered by propane gas, gasoline, camping fuel, batteries or electricity. Propane heaters are by far the most common type of heater. Electrical heaters are the most convenient, although it is not often easy to find a source of electricity while camping. Many campers opt to carry their own electrical supply with them by taking along a portable power generator.

Portable power generators are very convenient devices. They are not often taken on camping trips because they have their own fuel requirements and can be large and noisy. The Kipor generator provides sufficient power, but is very light weight and exceptionally quiet. Kipor has been manufacturing generators for over 15 years, and has gained a reputation for producing rugged, high quality products. They are a leading producer in Europe.
