Automatic Piercing and Ejection

The espresso capsules are automatically pierced by a needle inside both the machines in order to access the powder in the capsules. When the lid of the machine is opened again, used capsules drop into a used capsule container with a capacity of 12 capsules.

Detachable Water Tank

A nifty feature in both the D55 and the D50 is a water tank that can be rotated to its sides so as to save space on your counter top. The capacity of the water tank in both machines is 27 ounces.

Programmable Volume

The machine automatically memorizes the volume of coffee that you set so that it pours exactly the amount of espresso that you prefer each time.

Removable Drip Tray

A magnetic and adjustable drip tray makes it convenient to place your cup on the machine and is a good feature which makes it easy to clean after using the machine.

Used Capsules

The used capsule drawer holds up to 12 capsules making it very convenient for you to empty it out only once.  No more hassles of cleaning up after making coffee like in other coffee machines.

Empty Water Indicator

The D55 as well as the D50 have a light indicator which will tell you exactly when the machine has an empty water tank so that you can refill it for more espresso.

Automatic Shut Off

Both machines switch off automatically after 9 minutes of inactivity making it a good feature for saving on electricity costs.

Milk Frother

Both the D55 and D50 come with a milk frother with a single touch operation.  With the milk frother also available with the machine, you can make a variety of beverages.

What's the Difference Between the D50 and D55?

Features of the D50

The D55 is an impressive espresso machine which is also easy to operate. It has a detachable and rotating water tank to save on space and can pour customized volumes which can be automated for future use. It is easy to clean due to removable parts and has a 19-bar pump to get the best from the espresso capsules. There is a milk frother that comes with it that will enable you to make cappuccino and macchiato as well.

Improvements in the D55

The Nespresso D55 is a newer version of the D50 and has an attached milk frother. Not only does this feature save space but it is more convenient since both the machine and frother can be plugged in with the same cord. Other than this difference, both machines have the exact same features that make them great espresso machines.

How To Brew with a Nespresso

Making coffee with the D55 and D50 is really easy.  Take a Nespresso capsule and put it into the brewing chamber. Press the brew button after closing the sliding lid and in a few moments hot espresso will pour into your cup. When you pull the sliding lid back up again the used capsule will be automatically dropped down into the container below that holds 12 capsules. In order to clean up, just dispose of the capsules and clean the machine by removing the water container and drip tray.

Conclusion: Which Model is Best - Should I Buy a D55 or D50?

Both the D55 and D50 are excellent espresso coffee making machines. While choosing between the two machines, remember that they have the same great features but are only different because the D55 has an attached milk frother making it more convenient to use it. Both are available at excellent prices and either one will be a great buy.
