Nespresso Pixie Espresso Maker
The Nespresso Pixie looks pretty cool, right? It's compact with a slick design. It something you expect to see at a trendy person kitchen.
And it's true. The Pixie has been getting really popular nowadays. You see TV commercials and ads all over the place.
But, does it actually work? Does it work well? Is it hard to use? Is it worth the money?
I'm sure I'm not the only one asking those questions. And I thought this is a good place to share what I've found.
I hope you like it, and find it useful.
What Exactly Is The Pixie?
Ok, you've seen those giant espresso makers at chain coffee shops, right? Now, shrink it down to a size of a toaster. Then, get rid of all the cost and hassle of pulling an espresso shot. And you got the Nespresso Pixie.
It's a single serving espresso machine. It uses a capsule or a pod, that has pre-measured amounts of coffee grounds in it. It's actually kind of like making toast...you pop the capsule in, push a button, and you got delicious espresso.
Here check out this video below that shows you how it works.

Is Expensive Espresso Machines Better?
People always want to know what is the best. The honest truth is, there is no such thing as "THE BEST". There is only what works for YOU. Is higher price, or more functionality necessary make it better? I don't think so.
What makes it the best is how often you use it. Is a million dollar sports car the best when you run a construction business and need to haul a lot of raw materials? Of course not. It would just sit in the garage and collect dust.
Is a giant $2000 manual espresso machine the best when you don't have the room for it, and have no desire to deal with the process of using it? Again, no.
It's all about what your need is. There are people who love nothing more than study, research, and practice every little aspect of making espresso, that's great, I'm not one of those people, and I'm sure a lot of you guys aren't either.
So, I guess it comes down to how much money, time and effort you are willing to give for a cup of espresso.
Why Is It So Popular?
It seems the difference is Nespresso choose to do one thing and one thing well, and that is making espresso. They know the Pixie isn't for everyone. There are people who want to manually control everything. And that's great. And those people wouldn't take a second look at the Nespresso machines.
Then, there are the rest of the population. They don't have any desire to become some sort of coffee/espresso expert. They don't want to buy all these expensive equipments, and learn all the techniques. They just want to have their drink...tasty and fast.
The Pixie is very affordable. It's super easy to use, it's very fast and it makes delicious espresso.
It's the same reason people dine at restaurants. They just want great food without having to learn how to cook.
When you have a product that solves a problem for people, it's going to sell well.
Does It Taste Good?
That's the million dollar question, right? What good is it if the espresso tastes like swamp water? With making espresso, it's all about calibration. The quality of beans, the grind size, the amount, the water pressure, the water temperature, the brewing time...etc, they all have to compliment each other.
Here is why I think the Nespresso single serving machines produce such great results. It's because everything is in house. Nespresso controls everything. They choose the beans, they grind the beans, they built the machine that perfectly matches the beans.
They know exactly what their machines are capabable of, and they choose the right type of beans to go with it. They've been doing this for over 40 years...I think they know what they are doing.
What About Other Brands?
I have absolutely no problem with other brands of espresso makers. I recommend Nespresso because of the history.
As I have mentioned before, they've been making single serving espresso machine for 40 years. I'm not saying other brands are inferior, I just choose to believe when you've done something for 40 years successfully, you must be doing something right.
What's The Size Of The Pixie?
Here is the measurement: 12.75 inches x 4.75 inches x 9.75 inches. It is super compact. You will love it if you have a small kitchen or live in a small area in
general. If you have a small break room in your office, this could be a perfect fit.
How Fast Does It Make Espresso?
It takes about...30 seconds, and that includes heating up the water. To heat the water, it takes about 20 seconds, and to make the espresso, it takes an additional 8 to 15 seconds.
Works for me.
Is It Complicated To Use?
It's easier than a walk in the park. Just check out the video within this article. You turn the machine on, drop in the capsule, and hit ONE button. That's it.
It is the easiest way to make espresso in my opinion.
Now, I'm not a morning person like a lot of you. I can barely function, so the Pixie is perfect for those who wants a little pick me up in the morning, but doesn't want to deal with complicated gadgets.
It Uses Capsules
Or pods if you want to call them that. They are specially designed and produced by Nespresso. If you've ever seen someone making espresso the old fashion way, you'll realize how messy it is.
There is coffee grounds all over the place you have to clean up after. Most of the times, you'll make too much, and have to throw it away.
It's both messy and wasteful. Nespresso managed to grind the beans to the perfect size, the perfect amount and put it in a sealed package. Once you are done, the capsule drops into a bin for easy disposal.
Another reason you will like the capsule is how many different flavors you can try out. If you go out and buy a bag of beans, it's going to cost you some pretty pennies. I've seen them go for $10 to $16 per bag.
And what happens if you don't like it? You have to either throw it away, or figure out how to give away a bag of opened beans.
When you order the Nespresso Pixie, you will also receive a free sample pack. You get to try out many different flavors.
All espresso machine needs to be descaled...some more than others. The Nespresso Pixie espresso maker requires 3 times less descaling. In easier to understand terms...it's less work to maintain.
The Water Tank
The size of the water tank is 24oz. It sits nicely in the back of the machine. You can refill the water by detaching it from the Pixie, or you can simply flip up the lid and add water.
Low Water Indicator
This is a nifty little feature. The light on the front of the Pixie changes color, to let you know you should refill the water tank.
How Many Colors To Choose From?
There are 8 different colors you can pick...I'm sure there is one that's perfect for you.
- Electric Yellow
- Electric Titan
- Blue Steel
If you want to know what they look like, go to the end of this article, in the Nespresso Pixie Best Price section, and you'll find a link that'll show you what they look like and where to find the best deal. But don't skip to the end...you'll want to read the rest of the article.
Does It Come With A Warranty?
Absolutely. You will receive a one full year warranty.

Is There Any Downside?
Nothing is perfect. That includes the Nespresso Pixie. There aren't any design flaws, but there are a couple of things you need to know before taking the credit card out of your wallet.
The capsules. The capsules are great. It's easy to use, easy to store, and easy to clean up. But, you can only use Nespresso brand of capsules. You can't just run out to the store and pick up some. The good thing is, you get quite a few sample capsules when you order the machine. And ordering is super easy. There are also many different flavors to choose from.
Milk steamer. It doesn't come with a milk frother/steamer. If you want to make fancier drinks like a latte or cappuccino, you'll need to buy one. On the plus side, if you just want espresso, you don't have to spend extra money. If you want a milk steamer, it's not expensive at all.
Fine adjustments. The Pixie was designed to be simple to use, so you won't be able to make a lot of adjustments. You can choose the preset single cup or luongo setting, or you can choose manually how long or how short to brew. Most people who's looking at a single serve espresso maker actually prefer the machine doing most of the work.
So, there it is. These are the things you should consider before buying.
You are almost there. We've done through quite a lot of information today, and I thought it would be a good idea to sum it all up here.
1.) Ease of use. The Pixie couldn't be easier to use. I love those of you who can't function when you just woken up will love it.
2.) Tastes awesome. Ok, easy to use is great, but it means nothing if it doesn't produce delicious espresso. Pixie delivers.
3.) Affordable. There are espresso machines that costs 10, 20 times more than the Pixie. This is for every budget.
