What Is Neuro Dermatitis?

Dermatitis is generally an allergic condition, which causes irritation of skin and causes it to become red, itchy, inflamed, or scaly with lesions. There are many form of dermatitis. Neuro dermatitis is one such form. Most people are generally aware of it as it is so common. It is also referred to as 'lichen simplex' or 'eczema'.

Symptoms Of Neuro Dermatitis

• Neuro dermatitis is normally a skin condition that affects various body parts such as wrists, outer arms, neck, folds of ankles, etc.
• Neuro dermatitis is generally chronic and may reappear a number of times; sometimes even becoming a lifelong condition.
• Those suffering from itching caused by neuro dermatitis often tend to itch to the point of bleeding.
• In chronic cases, the tone and texture skin at the affected area becomes thick and leather like in appearance.
• Neuro dermatitis is characterized by the 'scratch-itch cycle' which means that there is so much itching that a person wants to keep scratching which further leads to itching more and this goes on in a cyclic manner.

Common Causes And Triggers Of Neuro Dermatitis

The triggers that cause neuro dermatitis vary from person to person. It is believed that the main reason of an outbreak of neuro dermatitis are the changes in the nerve fibres of the infected person. What triggers neuro dermatitis in one person may not do so in another and therefore there is a need for people who suffer from this ailment to be careful of their environment and try to find out th conditions that may be causing neuro dermatitis infection in them.

• Neuro dermatitis can be attributed to many factors like diet, fabric, dust, dryness, cold weather, etc. Also certain type of foods like fish, meat, chocolates, wine, tomatoes, milk, etc can trigger neuro dermatitis.

• Sometimes even simple things like cigarette smoke, certain type of perfumes and other fashion products can unknowingly trigger the symptoms of neuro dermatitis.

• Other reasons that can cause neuro dermatitis in proper hygiene, wading clothes that are either too tight or are ill fitting which causes rubbing and scratching of skin.

• Lot of psychological reasons like mental tension, anxiety, and fear can also be attributed to causing the onset of neuro dermatitis.

Management and Cure Of Neuro Dermatitis

The most serious cases of neuro dermatitis occur mainly because of neglect in the initial stages. Therefore, whenever there is even the smallest of symptom of neuro dermatitis one should immediately consult the doctor and get a proper medication. Keeping aware of the environmental and avoiding the conditions that trigger neuro dermatitis can go a long way to prevent its recurrence.

Keeping proper hygiene, taking proper care in the initial stages and following a full course of treatment are some of the methods that can provide relief from neuro dermatitis.
