Learn How To Setup Dropbox

Have you ever had a hard drive die on you or had you computers stolen and lost all of your files?

Or are you one of the smart ones that creates a back file on an external drive?

Well I was not that organised and have lost all of my files on a number of occasions, not to mention the time that it took me to transfer my files from my old computer to my new computer. That was until I discovered Dropbox. I have been using it for a little over a year now and store all my files in my Dropbox.

Dropbox Explained

Why do I use Dropbox and not another company?

I use it because it allows me to continue to save and access files the same as I did before. I simply save everything into my Dropbox folder.

So how do you get Dropbox?

Well you can get storage space for free starting at 2 GB and can earn more free space. I am going to show you how to get started and setup Dropbox on your computer.

Step 1

Go to dropbox.com and signup for a free account

Step 2

Now you need to fill in your details and create the account.

Step 3

You will now be taken to download page where it will automatically download the computer program for your computer.

Dropbox Step 3

Step 4

Open the program when it has finished downloading and follow the instructions. The file name will be "Dropbox X.X.X.exe" (the X’s are replaced by the version numbers). Ensure that you authorize the program to install if asked.

Dropbox Step 4.1

Click on the install button and the program will easily guide you through what you have to do.

Dropbox Step 4.2

Step 5

Copy all of the files that you want to keep and share between your devices into the Dropbox folder. It will then sync all of the files automatically.

Step 6

Install the program on all of you computers to ensure that they sync up and that you have all the files that you need on all of your computers by redoing step 4 & 5 on each computer. Don’t forget to get Dropbox on your mobile devices by going to the App Store for iPhone and iPad and the Android Store for Android devices.

Step 7

Go back to the website and complete the activities to get extra free space.

Dropbox Step 7

Dropbox has made my so much easier and I do not know what I would do without it. I no longer have to worry about losing my files and when I get a new computer I simply install the program and all of my files are on the computer waiting for me (given time for it to sync).

I hope that you find it as useful as I have.

I love to keep mine on two separate external drives. That way I know exactly (haha not really) where everything is. Filing and folders well thats another story. And saving images again thats another one expecially when some people (not mentioning names) often taken more than a thousand photos in a day. Good advice in this article.
