New Balance makes a ton of different running shoes. Now, upon first glance, all of them look exactly the same! I assure you that this isn't the case at all though. One of my favorite things about this company is the fact that they make shoes designed for specific types of runners and walkers. They have several trail running shoes, for example. They also have different shoes for different sized feet. You'll find everything from narrow to extra large options available on a number of their most popular shoes. The New Balance 1122's claim to fame is it's stability. So what the heck is a "stable" shoe anyway? Well, read on to find out.

When someone uses the word "stable" when talking about a shoe, it's my opinion that they are referring to two things - support and cushioning. The New Balance 1122 gets full marks in both of these categories. If you're a large athlete, or just run with a real heavy downward heel, these shoes are perfect for you. They have a number of different features that combine to make the NB 1122 one of the most supportive shoes on the market.

First of all, you'll find New Balance's patented ABZORB SBS system. This is basically a shock absorbing action that cushions the impact of your foot when it hits the ground. You know how shocks work in your car? You find essentially the same thing in a pair of New Balance runners equipped with the ABZORB system. Another features that helps the cushioning part of this support equation is the ENCAP mid sole foam. Most shoes don't really have a lot of foam in the middle part of the shoe. This can make running a rather unpleasant experience for heavier athletes. New Balance took a bit of initiative and added an extra layer to provide the runner with a nice soft surface between their foot and the hard ground.

As far as the support component of a stable shoe is concerned, one need not look further than the ROLLBAR that comes standard on many New Balance shoes. This system basically works to prevent the shoe from "rolling" over. If you've ever rolled your ankle, you know how painful this can be. Larger men and women, in particular, are susceptible to these types of injuries. The New Balance 1122's come standard with this feature.

All in all, these are very supportive shoes. They're durable, reliable and very comfortable. If you're a bigger man or woman and enjoy running or jogging, do yourself a favor and check out the NB 1122's. You won't regret it!
