New Designs for Door Curtains

Door curtains can really solve a lot of design dilemmas if you don't have closet doors or if you just want to add a funky element to your space. However, it can also solve difficult window treatment problems as well because often times, French doors are pretty difficult to cover and still give you a lot of privacy.

Beaded door curtains are going to be your funkiest option. Usually these are just made out of plastic to cut down on costs. This works well in a teenagers room, although it doesn't provide you with a lot of privacy. It can seem a little bit too cheesy for the main living areas of your home. This has a very retro vibe to it as well.

Other options are going to be bamboo door curtains. In the vintage kind of design style this often had a painting that went from strand to strand and the classic motif is going to be a hula girl. This can really be the focal point of your room and it does add in a tropical feeling. However, you could also keep it slightly elegant. In this case, you might want to just go for the natural textures of bamboo and have different colors of beads.

French door curtains are going to be some of the most difficult to decide on. Typically this would have a rod pocket on both the top and the bottom. Then it would have a custom fabric panel that covers up the entire door. While this is one of the easiest ways to get a lot of privacy and it really blocks the view. You can put a tie in the middle of this so that it really cinches but again most of the window is really going to be blocked. Before you go with this design style think of your overall intent with getting French doors in the first place. Probably it had a lot to do with letting in the light. While French door curtains provide privacy it also defeats the purpose of having these doors in the first place.

One of the more expensive options for French door curtains is going to be Roman shades. Often times these have to be custom made but you can really pull them up and down. Since it is so expensive you want to go with a somewhat neutral kind of fabric even if it's just a plain canvas, French toile or a country plaid. These are pieces that can really last from year to year.

If you have mini blinds on your doors then this gives you a lot of privacy but it also looks a little bit cheap. In this case, you can just frame them out with different swags materials. You just need to make sure that it doesn't interfere with the actual opening and closing of the door. This is a way to really lend a little bit more elegance to door curtains.
