The Nike Blazer AC High LE was just released late last year by Nike. The Nike Blazer AC High LE shows how much collectors of Nike shoes will pay for a shoe that is not worth it. I guess if you are a collector of Nikes or you want the newest pair on the block then the Nike Blazer AC High LE may be just the shoe for you. For the rest of us that wear Nike shoes for comfort in everyday situations then the Nike Blazer AC High LE is currently not the shoe for you.
I have bought many Nikes and occasionally will spend $100.00 or more. There are many Nikes that are worth the high price they ask on certain models. I wear Nike shoes on a daily basis. I wear them for my everyday shoes. If a particular Nike shoe is extremely durable and will hold up to all of the walking I do I may consider paying hundred dollars for a pair of Nikes. If I put a pair of Nikes through hell and back and they still last me over a year then the $100.00 plus price tag was worth it too me. The Nike Blazer AC High LE does not fall into this category.
The Nike Blazer AC High LE is based on the Nikes of over 20 years ago. The old school styling of this Nike is a direct descendent of many Nike shoes from the early 1980's. Even the technology is ancient. The midsole is made of EVA. EVA is a great material for midsoles. Especially for heavy people . The problem is there is no airsole in the heel or forefoot. If pay a hundred dollars for a pair of Nikes I want to have at the bare minimum an air pocket in the heel encapsulated by EVA.
What makes the Nike Blazer AC High LE basketball shoe cost so much? Well, first I would not consider the Nike Blazer AC High LE a basketball shoe. It takes it's styling from early basketball shoes from Nike and is a tribute to the first Air Jordan ever made but it is not designed for basketball. It's ironic that we have shoes that are made as tributes to other shoes. The styling of the shoe is classic as seen by the huge popularity of Nike Dunks and there old school styling. The Nike Blazer AC High LE is not a basketball shoe it is a collectors shoe. There is a huge amount of people who collect Nike shoes and will pay huge amounts for new Nike shoes. If the shoes are rare, new, or a limited run Nike collectors will pay above retail for a pair of new Nikes. Sometimes a thousand dollars for a pair of Nikes.
The cost of the Nike Blazer AC High LE is $100.00 which is high but by Nike collector standards is just a drop in the bucket. The high cost of the Nike Blazer AC High LE with basic EVA midsole cushioning is able to demand a high price because it is designed for Nike Collectors.
The Nike Blazer AC High LE is made with patent leather. Instead of laces it uses a hook and loop closures (Velcro).
The Nike Blazer AC High LE is $100.00 at Nike.com but can be found for around $75.00 if you look around at other reputable Nike dealers online. Even at $75.00 this shoe is overpriced for the person who simply needs a comfortable shoe for everyday wearing.
The Nike Blazer AC High LE sports a herringbone outsole. For someone who wears the Nike Blazer AC High LE on a daily basis the soles will wear quickly. The herringbone outsole was originally designed for basketball and this type of traction works great for indoor basketball courts.
The looks of the shoe varies. As with all of Nikes shoes some people love the way a particular shoe looks as others may think it is the gaudiest design they have ever seen. I personally am not a huge fan of the looks. I hate patent leather on Nike shoes. They do however have a color called Dark Cinder and Mushroom and that particular color is sharp. Of course others may disagree. The red patent leather color is nasty but the Dark Cinder and Mushroom color look great. The pebbled leather is beautiful on the dark Cinder color.
The Hook and Loop closures are grotesque in my opinion but I can see how they may be functional for some people. Of course these shoes are not designed to be functional as a shoe for NBA players but instead designed for looks.
If you want an old school style of Nikes for playing some pick up games in the gym the Nike Blazer AC High LE can be the shoe for you but I would not spend $100.00. Look around and find the Nike Blazer AC High LE at other retailers online for less money.
If you want a pair of shoes for style then the Nike Blazer AC High LE may work for you.
If you want a pair of shoes to wear daily then look elsewhere for a different Nike model. If you buy the Nike Blazer AC High LE and wear them daily then they will rapidly get beat to hell. The upper will last but the rubber herringbone designed sole will rapidly erode to the point of making the shoes unwearable.
The Nike Blazer AC High LE work great for their intended usage which is for style. If you are a serious basketball player then the Nike Blazer AC High LE will not work for you unless you are only playing ball indoors on a wood court. Of course for a hundred dollars a serious ball player would have a better Nike shoe for basketball.
