Full Review

I bought the digital Nikon L100 camera for my second semester senior high school photography class. At that point I was a complete amateur just wanting to learn more about photography by taking a photography class.

I read some reviews on Amazon, and decided this Nikon Coolpix L100 was good for an "amateur" photographer - great point and shoot camera, large lens, lots of megapixels, and not too bad for the price. So I purchased the Nikon L100 after looking at many different cameras, including Cannon powershot and Fujifilm digital cameras.

Well, the first thing I loved about the Nikon Coolpix L100 was the face recognition. It shoots when it "sees" a smile, and warns you if the subject blinks.

I found the Nikon Coolpix L100 digital camera was great for portraits of friends and family, and for the crazy obsession the Photography teacher seemed to have for portrait taking (unfortunately, I much prefer nature/still life photography to portrait taking.)

However, first and foremost the Nikon Coolpix L100 is a camera I'd highly recommend for taking pictures of subjects.

I'd also highly recommend this camera for its zoom feature. The huge lens and 15x optical zoom make the Nikon Coolpix L100 digital camera a great digital camera for up-close and personal pictures.

Plus, the fact that the textured thumbgrip on the back and the rubber coating make the camera steady to hold, and a tripod for the camera isn't even necessary.

There are so many modes on the Nikon Coolpix camera that I'm still trying to figure them all out, but there's one particularly that I love that's called "food" mode.

As I said, I am an amateur photographer, and this is my first "professional" digital camera. But so far, I think I've gotten a lot for my money, especially since the Nikon Coolpix is a Nikon, a name synonymous with quality in the digital camera world.

I've read some reviews of the Nikon Coolpix L100 digital camera that say that all pictures come out grainy or washed out when shooting with the camera, but I haven't found that to be the case. The only potential negative of the camera is that some (not all) of the pictures come out fuzzy and unfocused.

But I suppose that this is the price paid for not having a viewfinder in the Nikon Coolpix L100, the lack of a viewfinder lending to a much longer battery life, which is another plus for me. Somewhere I heard in a review that the Nikon Coolpix L100 can take up to 600 unique photographs with its battery life, though I wouldn't test fresh batteries just to take 600 photographs.

All in all, I'm still playing with and discovering the features of the Nikon Coolpix L100, but my review of the Nikon Coolpix L100 is a positive one.

In Closing

I would recommend the coolpix for anyone on a budget, amateur photographers, or even professional photographers just looking for a reliable point-and-shoot kind of a camera with an excellent zoom, long battery life, and not too many fancy bells and whistles that come on other digital cameras.
