Notre Dame de Paris is a well known cathedral you can see on a day trip in Paris that sits on the Ile de la Cité, a little island in the center of the Seine River. This area of the city is where the old part of Paris is located as well. You can find it right next to one of the hotels in Paris, France, the Hotel Dieu.

The Notre Dame Cathedral is open for tourist to see 365 days a year. It is open from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. and there is no cost to come in. Plus, if you so desire, you can talk to one of the priests there and take your confession or get counseling or just talk to them if you want.

There are special audio devices you can get there so you can listen to information about the Notre Dame Cathedral’s history and items inside. It is available in French, English, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Italian. Or, you can take a guided tour. These are available Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 2 p.m. in English, as well as on Saturdays at 2:30 p.m.

If you need a Japanese tour, you can get it Fridays at 2 p.m. Other languages for tour guides are also held at varying times, so check with the cathedral for more information on tours in Spanish, Russian, or other languages.

You can also take home some nice souvenirs from the religious article boutique. They are open 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 pm. and sell things like religious medals, postcards, charm necklaces, religious and other books, rosaries, and other items.
If you have enough energy to climb more than 400 steps, you can go up inside the tower and see the bell, and the western façade built in the 13th century.

There is a fee to do this part of the tour. Children under 18 are free, and adults pay about 8 Euros, but the price is subject to change, so check ahead of time so you won’t be surprised.

Mass and Services at Notre Dame

If you wish to attend church services in this famous cathedral, they are open for anyone to attend. The services are held on Sundays at 8:30 a.m. for mass, as well as daily at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. On Sundays there is also a lauds service at 9:30 a.m., Gregorian mass at 10 a.m., International mass at 11:30 a.m., regular mass at 12:45 p.m., vespers at 5:45 p.m. and a mass by the archbishop that is broadcast live at 6:30 p.m.
