What Is the nummular Dermatitis With reaction

Dermatitis is generally a condition in which the skin becomes inflamed, red, itchy and scaly. It may also develop lesions. There are many types of dermatitis, which are generally named after their symptoms, location and shape.

The nummular dermatitis with reaction gets its name from the Latin word "nummus" which means a "coin". This is so because it is in shape of a small coin.

Its occurrence is generally seen at the limbs of the patient. Nummular dermatitis with reaction is a very rare type of dermatitis, as its incidence is not very well known as it occurs in a miniscule percentage of population. The risk of infection is more among males as compared to females. As in the case of other forms of dermatitis, one of the characteristic sign of this dermatitis is also pruritus.

Causes

There can be a number of causes leading to nummular dermatitis with reaction. Although not much is known about the origin of this disease, a number of factors can be identified that lead to onset of nummular dermatitis with reaction.
Some of the common causes that can precipitate onset of nummular dermatitis with reaction are:

• Insufficient flow of blood to some areas of body.
• A history of edema and multiple varicosities.
• Local trauma of skin (e.g. aberration of the skin, insect bites chemical erosion, etc) can also lead to the onset of nummular dermatitis with reaction
• Dryness of skin is one of the prime factors leading to onset of nummular dermatitis with reaction.
• Other diseases like hepatitis C can trigger nummular dermatitis with reaction.
• Improper hygiene is also another factor is may lead to its onset.

Prevention Of Nummular Dermatitis With Reaction

Nummular dermatitis with reaction can be prevented by taking care of the environment and the place where we stay. It is observed that the incidences of nummular dermatitis with reaction increase in hot and humid conditions since the dryness caused by hot weather tends to worsen the itching sensation on the skin leading to inflammation and rash. As a corollary, incidences of nummular dermatitis with reaction reduce drastically in an environment that is cool.

Exposure to sunlight is also considered good in cases of nummular dermatitis with reaction. Keeping good hygiene and taking proper rest also improves the condition.

Recovery From Nummular Dermatitis With Reaction

Complete recovery from nummular dermatitis with reaction is a slow process that requires a lot of time and patience. All through the recovery phase the focus is maintained on the right kind of hydration, application of corrective doses of drugs, intake of medicines and other such measures.

The patients suffering from nummular dermatitis with reaction display a lot of relief when rehydration therapy of skin is done using a soak bath for 20 minutes using warm water. To reduce dryness of skin moisturizers can also be used after a bath on the damp skin.

Besides this, a regular regimen of medicines and steroids has a very positive effect in treatment of nummular dermatitis with reaction. Some of the medicines commonly used are oral antibiotics, topical steroids and oral antihistamines. Traditional remedies consisting of petroleum jelly and other tar preparations are also very useful in management of nummular dermatitis with reaction.

Following a strict routine religiously over a prolonged period helps in overcoming the symptoms of nummular dermatitis with reaction finally leading to its complete cure.
