Introduction to Nurse Leads

For those in the health industry, it is a known fact that the U.S. and the world is currently going through a nurse shortage due to the ever increasing older population needing more health care as they age.

The fact is that nurses are in demand and the demand will increase for the next 10 years and hospitals are in need of companies that can supply them with fresh databases of nurse leads.

This is the perfect opportunity to do your share in helping patients, hospitals and health care facilities while making a nice profit at the same time by creating your own online nurse staffing company.

Setting aside the detailed market research and business plan (yes, you will have to make those eventually. Especially if you will be asking for a loan or be looking for a partner), let's look at the basic steps needed to make one.

How to Earn Money from a Nurse Staffing Agency

Its quite simple, for short term assignment, you get to up the price of a regular nurse by 10% to 75% depending on the client and the competition. For permanent assignments, the usual fee is 1 month's salary that the nurse would earn.

Bare Minimum Costs

Keeping in mind that this is for a one person operation and that you will be doing all of the leg work and that it does not include advertisement, this is a general un-itemized look at the costs involved:

  • Office Space Rental - $800-$4,000 a month
  • Utilities - $300 to $1,000 a month
  • Equipment - $3,000 to $5,000 a month
  • Website Cost including software - $3000
  • Signage - $1,000 to $2,000
  • Legal and Accounting Costs - $2,000 to $3,000

These figures are very low for a start-up company but this is assuming that you will be doing all of the work in creating a database of nurse leads which involves thousands of phone calls, thousands of emails to find nurses and clients as well as learning about basic advertising so that you can advertise your own company.

If you intend on hiring a part-time staff then the cost will more then double.

Ideally, you would want to have around $135,000 in start up capital and $150,000 in the bank for operating capital.

The General Steps Involved

Now that you have a grasp on the start up cost, let's talk about the steps involved

Office and Location – The first step is to find an ideal location that will give off a professional atmosphere that will also provide room to interview, train and hold business meetings.

Another aspect to take in consideration is the proximity to your clients and accessibility.

Website and Software – This is where if done right, you can turn your company website as your main source of advertising and recruiting. Hiring an expert consultant can make a big difference.

Business License – This is where an accountant and an attorney can help facilitate matter but you can also get it by simply going to a state's government website and they will give you the instruction on how to go about getting a license. In most cases, you can fill out the application online.

Get Nurse Leads and Clients – Now that your office is ready and legal, the next step is to go out and look for nurse leadsand clients.

This is when it gets interesting as it involves many meetings and a lot of imagination.

The Road to Success

As in all start up businesses, the key to success is simple. Have a detailed plan, execute it, persevere and be ready to spend 12 hours a day for a year making the business successful.

Nurses are definitely in demand and I am sure salaries are increasing. Where I worked a few years ago, they were so desparate for nurses they recrutied retirees frequently.
