Conventional board games require more than one player. This is fine if you have some siblings or a friend to play with, but if you are on your own you are a bit stuck and can’t play a conventional board game. This is not a problem with online board games as your opponent is some other lone
person in another location.
Conventional board games take up a lot of storage room. This is fine if you have a spare room or a house large enough to store board games but if you live in a one bedroom apartment these board games will take up space that could be used for something else. Online board games are virtual games and take up no more space than your desktop or laptop.
You have to buy conventional board games and some of these are quite expensive. Once you start buying lots of them the cost will escalate with each person and you will find your collection of board games cost you a lot of money. Many online board games are totally free of charge and all you need to do is to log on to the relevant website, find an opponent and then start playing.
Conventional board games cannot be played on the move, whereas online board games can. In order to play online all you need is a mobile device, such as a laptop, tablet or notebook and an internet connection. Providing you have these things you can play an online board game on the plane, on a train, on the bus, sat in the local park or anywhere else you can think of.
When playing online board games the game play is fluid, fast and un-interrupted. This does not always happen when playing conventional board games and there are times when game play is interrupted or slows down.
Online board games are one of the top rainy day activities for kids and a source of entertainment for those timese when it is not possible to send your kids outside in the backyard to play.
Can online board games ever be a viable alternative to conventional board games?
The answer is a most definite yes. There are many circumstances when online board games are the only way of playing a particular game. With online gaming it is now possible for kids with no siblings to enjoy the experience of games like chess, Monopoly and checkers to name but a few. Online gaming also allow kids with siblings the chance to play board games if their siblings have no interest in playing. There are plenty of advantages of online gaming, which make them preferable to more conventional board games.
Does this mean the conventional board game is going to become a relic and a thing of the past? I don’t think so. Conventional board games provide a chance to interact with real people face to face, something that is impossible when playing online board games. Given the choice I prefer to play a conventional board game however in those circumstances when it is simply not possible I am more than happy to spend time playing online.
