There are a lot of advantages and disadvantages when it comes to online classes. I will try to cover all the pros and cons I've noticed about taking online classes in this article. Let's get going!

First, I'll talk about the advantages of taking online classes. The first advantage is obvious: you get to stay home all day! You can stay in your PJs all day long and you get to be a little lazy. You don't have to commute anymore and spend 1 hour in traffic to get to school. Also, for those of you with any social anxiety problems, taking classes from home is a lot easier because you get to study on your own all alone.

A second advantage I'll discuss is the fact that it's good for the environment for you to take online classes. Think about the gaz you save by not having to go back and forth to school anymore.

Also, it's cheaper and better for your wallet since you don't have to pay for gaz or public transport anymore. Also ebooks tend to be cheaper than actual physical books. Not much cheaper but if you're taking 4-5 classes, you'll save a couple hundred dollars every semester in course readings fees.

Another big advantage is that most exams for online classes are open book which makes getting good grades a whole lot easier. Most online class teachers allow you to use your online textbooks and lesson slides during exams because think about it, how would they keep you from cheating in the first place if it wasn't allowed?

Another obvious advantage is the fact that you get to set your own hours. You don't really have much of a set schedule you need to follow. You can study in the morning or in the afternoon or at night depending on what your other time commitments are. That's why online classes is so convenient especially for people who are already working or for people who have young children at home. Of course, it's not only convenient for people who work or have kids but it's convenient for all of us.

You also always get assigned a Teacher's Assistant(TA) who is there to help you whenever you need. If you're taking classes in person, you often only have the professor to help you and their schedules are usually very busy already so how much time can they actually share with you. A TA for an online class on the other hand is very available to help you whenever you're in trouble.

Now, let's talk about the disadvantages:

First of all, it's a lot less interactive. What I mean by this is that you have less chances to make connections with fellow students or your teachers... It's not that easy to make friends when taking online classes. When I was taking classes in person, one of the biggest benefits was the ability to make friends and study buddies. It's a lot easier to study for an exam when you have other students helping you. This is definitely the biggest disadvantage.

Also, you don't really get to take full advantage of the whole college experience. College is so much more than classes and textbooks. It's about making new connections and partying of course. You can't really party much when you're home taking online classes. It's not all about partying though. It's also about getting involved with your University's community: volunteering, working, etc... These are all things that do not happen when you are taking classes online.

Another big disadvantage is that when you're taking online classes, you spend a lot of time at your computer and at home and it's not uncommon to start gaining some extra weight. That's why it's crucial to stick to a health and fitness regimen if you want to stay in shape.
