Only in the northern Midwest are Boat Covers a Big Deal
If you live here in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, or Minnesota, you are blessed to border at least one of the five Great Lakes. Michigan leads them all, home to the shores of 4 of the 5. OK - so that's the good news.
The bad news is that you can only take your boat out on one of these grand lakes 4 or 5 months out of the year. Unless of course your boat is an ice-breaker! And, even sadder, the beginning and ending months are "iffy" due to frigid water temperatures and wind. Now, maybe with all this "global warming" stuff, the season will extend a week or two!
So, with such a short boating season, Boat Covers and Boat Storage are a huge business! IF you've got the dough, Boat Storage is ideal, putting your vessel indoors in a barn-type structure - out of the elements for the long winter. However, most Michiganders don't, and so have Boat Covers - which may or may not be underneath a Boat Shed!
Now if you are going to have to park your boat outside with a cover to protect it, this bad boy BETTER be good, sturdy, strong, and secure! The last thing you want to be doing in sub zero gale force winds is chasing down your cover!
Boat Covers are available in rugged materials like canvas, polyester, and canvas-polyester blends. Not only do they protect your boat in winter from the snow and cold, but also keep it out of the harm's way of the sun, wind, rain, mildew, dirt, and dust. Also easier to keep out the unwanted beer cans and other trash! There are also individual boat seat covers to further protect the sitting areas!
So, if you're smart, you live on one of the coasts, and this isn't a problem for you or your boat. But, if you're like so many of us, this icebox is home, and so you'll want to do some digging and find a good solid cover for your big bad boat!
