What is Organic Food?

Organic food is food that is produced without using herbicides, pesticides, or growth hormones. Organic food should have no artificial preservatives, flavoring, or ingredients. Choosing to eat organic food can help to reduce the amount of toxins that are put into your body on a daily basis.

Organic Farming

Farming is the mass production of foods. Farms grow acres of a single type of food in order to produce enough of that type of food to feed a huge number of people. Organic farming is becoming a popular alternative to conventional farming methods. As more and more people choose to consume only organic produce the financial rewards for using organic farming methods is increasing. Crops are grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides and the fertilizer used is from natural sources.

Organic Gardening

Gardening is farming on a much smaller scale. It is something that a household can do to ensure that the food that is being consumed is indeed organic. Organic gardening stresses the use of compost and other organic fertilizers, while avoiding toxic pesticides and herbicides.

When growing your own organic food you know what has gone onto and into the soil. It keeps the runoff that is going into the groundwater from containing chemicals that can hurt the environment.

Organic Baby Food

Organic baby food is created using organically grown food products. Meat, dairy, fruits, and vegetables are grown using the minimum amount of chemicals. More and more parents are choosing to go organic when deciding what food to feed to their babies. You can create your own organic baby food at home using organic produce that you've grown or purchased.

People are choosing not to put food that has been grown with poisonous chemicals into the food that they feed their infants. Herbicides and pesticides that can kill insects and plants, can certainly damage a delicate human baby.

Organic Dog Food

Humans aren't the only ones going organic today. Our canine companions also deserve healthy alternatives. Pet foods generally get the bad end of the butcher shop, but when you go with organic dog food you will at least be getting food that has not been chemically altered and processed.

Dogs don't care if the food is organic or not but the owners do. If you feed yourself organic food does your beloved pet deserve any less?

Organic Cat Food

Organic cat food is grown and processed using as few chemical additives as possible. Cats and dogs have different nutritional needs, so when feeding cats use cat food. Fish and poultry are common ingredients in cat food. Any toxins that may be in the water that the fish are harvested from can be transferred to the fish that is living there.

Organic food is a safe and healthy alternative to foods that are highly processed and may contain chemicals left over from growing the crops. Organic food can be more expensive than conventionally produced food, but when the health of the family is concerned, is price the most important thing?
