Teak is one of the most favorite choices among consumers when it comes to outdoor furniture sets. Teak furniture is unique and well known because of its honey brown color and waxy oil surface. Over time, teak outdoor furniture’s finish changes into a classic gray color. Any patio furniture made of teak can withstand the damaging effects of moisture, bugs, and intense heat of the sun.

It is very easy to maintain teak outdoor furniture. The furniture pieces only need to be washed with water and mild soap. You don’t have to paint your teak patio furniture set since it can stay stylish even for a long time. As time passes by, your teak patio furniture will look great in its silvery gray color.

However, if you want to restore the former luster of your teak furniture, you should oil it at least once a year. Applying oil to your patio furniture items won’t make them last longer, but it can hamper the aging process brought about by constant exposure to sunlight. So oiling your furniture is an ideal way to keep it looking like new again.

You must gather all the necessary materials before you apply oil to your teak patio furniture. The materials you need include teak oil, mild soap, paintbrush, and clean rags. The teak oil, which you can get from marine suppliers, should be made only for outdoor furniture.

The next step is to mix warm water and detergent that you will use to wash your teak furniture. Then allow it to dry for 24 to 48 hours. Be sure that every furniture item is completely dry. Mildews can form if you apply oil to moist furniture.

To achieve a smooth surface, sand your teak furniture using fine grain sandpaper. Then wipe away all the dust from your furniture.

Get the teak oil and carefully read all the instructions that come with the product. Typically, a paintbrush is used to apply the teak oil. Wipe off extra oil with a cotton rag, and then let the furniture dry.
For better results, apply a second coating of teak oil to your outdoor teak furniture. This will enhance the finish of your teak tables and chairs. Before you apply the additional coating, you must sand down each furniture piece.

You will be pleased with the new look of your teak furniture as soon as you’re done with oiling. This job is a bit tedious, but it can give your furniture a great look that is guaranteed to last for a long time. So bring back your outdoor furniture’s original look by oiling it once a year.
