Outpatient alcohol rehab

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

For some people with alcohol problems, outpatient alcohol rehab offers a method of alcohol rehabilitation which avoids the need of residential treatment. There are different types of outpatient alcohol rehab available. The different types of treatment will be based around what type of alcoholic is being dealt with. For instance a person who is receiving treatment for alcohol problems who is young, is finding difficulty coping with the consumption of alcohol, and is worried that the alcohol may be beginning to affect his/her life is going to the treated a whole lot differently to an alcoholic who has been drinking for years on end and has serious health issues because of the abuse of alcohol.

Before any outpatient alcohol rehab can begin the patient must initially go through a program of alcohol detoxification. The process of alcohol detoxification involves quitting drinking and going through the subsequent withdrawal stage. The period of withdrawal can be quite severe depending on the level of alcohol abuse. But it is impossible for the alcoholic to move forward unless they have gone through this initial stage and given up drinking. This initial alcohol detox period can last for a week or more. After that the toxins that have lodged themselves in the body throughout the alcohol abuse will have mostly been cleaned up. These toxins are also responsible for the cravings that an alcoholic gets whilst drinking and when he cannot have a drink. So the physical cravings will no longer be effective for the alcoholic. But there remains the issue of alcohol psychological cravings. These psychological cravings can be as severe if not more severe than the physical cravings for alcohol. This is where outpatient alcohol rehab kicks in.

For some people, outpatient alcohol rehab will only take place after an initial time spent with in an inpatient alcohol rehab program. This is because there are some alcoholics who will not be able to survive without a drink in the outside world. They will need to have two or three months of constant rehabilitation, sometimes longer, in order that they can realize that they do not need a drink in order to be able to function. For other people, outpatient alcohol rehab is something that can be achieved with only a few visits to an alcohol rehab therapist.

There also people who have undergone home alcohol detox. Outpatient alcohol rehab to them may be just trying to deal with the effects of too many bouts of binge drinking, or trying to decrease the frequency or amounts of alcohol that they consume when they are drinking. Alcoholism is never a cut and dried one fits all situation. Alcohol affects different people in different ways. Outpatient alcohol rehab will always take this into account. For instance some people may need constant care and attention even though they are on an outpatient alcohol rehab program. These people may need to be in sheltered accommodation where they are being cared for but don't actually need a full-blown inpatient alcohol rehab program. To other people, outpatient alcohol rehab may only require a visit to their physician or therapist once every two or three months.
