PC or Mac: The Ultimate Dilemma
It's the eternal question. Mac or PC? Well, let's make this short and simple. Are you doing graphic design with no budget? If so then your answer is a Mac. If not, well then, you may have a little thinking to do. It seems today that most people buy a computer based on who has a better commercial. Mac's commercials are witty and creative while the PC seems to have taken a page out of the Wal-Mart book. You seriously get dumber just by watching them. You must, however, ignore the commercials when making a large purchase like a computer. Do your research and make an informed decision.

The first question you should ask yourself is "What does my budget look like?" If you have a low budget, then you will probably have to go with a PC. For some reason Microsoft is insanely cheap when compared to the Mac. For comparable ability you will save a couple hundred to a thousand dollars. You will, however, have to deal with all of the viruses that are written specifically for the PC. Also, if you are on a tight budget, you should avoid the major retail stores. Some online vendors offer great prices for high quality computers.
The second question you should ask yourself is what you will be using the computer for. We already answered the graphic design question but that only takes care of a small portion of the population. Are you going to use the computer for gaming? Will you be upgrading manually at any time. Are you just using it for internet purposes? Are aesthetics incredibly important to you?
Using a computer for gaming and manually upgrading go hand in hand and you will want to get a PC in that case. You don't want to have to shell out a couple thousand dollars every few years because you had to have a Mac. You will want to replace your video card yourself and have reasonably easy access to the motherboard. With a Mac this will be much more complicated.
If you are planning on using the computer for mundane tasks like internet and spreadsheets, then you should save your money and get a PC. There is no purpose to spend the extra money on a Mac when you aren't going to be using the computer to its fullest extent anyways.
Finally if you are completely obsessed with aesthetics, and they are important, then you should get a Mac. For some reason the people at Microsoft can't get it through their heads that plain old boxes aren't pretty. Mac has some incredibly sleek designs to choose from and incredibly innovative interfaces.
Hopefully now you have a clearer vision on what kind of computer you will be purchasing and are not more confused. If I confused you further, then I apologize. Happy hunting!
