The day is beautiful, you don't have to work, and everyone is home. Normally you would just relax and do a little gardening, but today is different. It happens to be the perfect day for a picnic. The first thing you will have to do is pack the right picnic gear.

People have a wide variety of opinions about what you should pack for a picnic, but there are several basic things that you would not want to forget.

Basket: This is the most important part. The basket will serve to carry all of the gear that you need for the perfect picnic. You can get one of those gorgeous baskets that are sometimes hand woven or you can choose a large hamper type basket.

A new type of picnic carrier is the picnic backpack. They usually come fully stocked with all the accessories you need and there is a place for everything. They are great if you are planning on biking or walking a long distance to your area of choice. If you want to take the mystery out of what to pack you can buy a basket that is already filled with cups, utensils, plates, and a cloth. All items are color coordinated and ready to go.

Table cloth: With this piece of picnic gear you can go with a nice cloth that is suitable for spreading on the grass or you can just bring along a clean blanket to spread out. Either way, make sure that it is clean before leaving the house.

Dinnerware: You absolutely want to make sure that you have all the right dinnerware before you leave. It would a big mistake to forget forks or cups. For easy clean up try bringing all paper. They are convenient and come in many colors for the visual appeal of your outdoor dining.

Accessories: Salt, pepper, and wrapping materials are all vital to keeping everything wrapped before and after eating.

It is a good idea to pack up your picnic gear the day before your picnic, and you may want to make most of the food the night before. Items like sandwiches and potato salad are refrigerator friendly and are easy to prepare. The most important thing to remember is to relax and enjoy your well packed lunch.
