Everyone can use some packing and moving tips, especially when they are uprooting from the place they once called home. If you are one of the hundreds of people who have decided to move to another location, you will have to face a few packing and moving dilemmas.

Whether it is your 1st or your 10th time moving, there are ways that can make the entire process go smoother. This article will list down a few ways to help you pack, move, and unpack your belongings to your new house without all the stress the usually accompanies the process.

Packing Your Belongings

Packing all your valuables and belongings the right way is an art in itself. There is more to this process than hunting down the best container boxes. One of the things you should do is to find or purchase specialized boxes for fragile or odd-shaped items. These boxes can be bought at a moving or storage companies.

  • For your kitchen equipment, utensils, china, and other breakables, you should look for a "dish barrel" box. This type of box can hold your dishes in place; thus, you don't have to worry about breaking them in the process of moving.
  • For your art and posters, you can use cylindrical tubes which are ideal storage for rolled-up art. If you have precious art which you can't possibly roll-up, you can always look for long, flat boxes. This type of box can also be used for your mirrors.
  • When you pack heavier items, such as books, you should place them in smaller boxes. In doing so, you or the movers can easily carry the items around and you won't have to worry about damaging what's inside the box.
  • You should also purchase vacuum-sealing bags for your clothes and accessories. This helps you save space and time.

You should also consider getting a self-storage unit for the items you can't bring with you to your new home. A self-storage unit is an excellent option if you want to store unneeded and unnecessary items without giving them away or selling them. A reputable storage facility offers high quality, clean, safe, and secured units; thus, you don't have to worry about your belongings.

Packing Important Documents And Items

When packing important documents, such as the homeowners insurance, house title, your passport, and cash, you should be very careful. As a tip, you should place them in a handy bag which you can bring with you at all times. Remember to keep these times on your person to avoid losing them in the midst of a hectic moving process. Never place these documents along with your other items and belongings.

Use Labels For Your Containers

With packing and moving comes the number of boxes you need to sort through when it is time to unpack. To help you avoid confusion, you need to label each container box. You can never over-label. As a tip, you can place numbers on your boxes and keep a reference. You can even label the boxes according to category or room, or you can color code them so that the movers will know where they should put the boxes when they unload them. To make this possible, you need to color code each box and place the corresponding colors for each room of your house.

Moving to a new house and new neighborhood can be very exciting, but the moving process is less appealing. But if you are able to properly plan for the move, and if you follow these basic packing and moving tips, you can make the moving process smoother and bearable.
