An Outline of Online Paid Surveys
I suspect that many people looking to make some extra cash online have already heard of paid online surveys. I have read that some people consider them scams but I would like to dispel this myth. Yes, as with anything there are scams out there but the majority of survey sites are legitimate ways to make some money.
The first thing I will say is that no-one got rich completing online surveys. There are people who maintain than it is possible to make between £5 and £50 on one survey. While it is possible (but very unusual) to make £5, most surveys will pay out between 50p t0 £2 for between 10 and 25 minutes of your time. While this is barely minimum wage, I tend to fill out these surveys during some spare time and have earned about £1000 in one year which has been enough to buy myself a laptop and a smart phone.
Paid online surveys are commissioned by market research companies working on behalf of large companies and brands looking for some feedback as to what people think of a new product idea or an advertising campaign. These market research companies will then send emails to the people who have registered with them who fit the demographic that their client is looking for and pay them for their opinion. The payment methods differ between each survey company but generally take the form of paypal, vouchers, cheques or bank transfers. The rate of pay also varies between each company so it may be useful to find out which companies are well regarded before you embark on answering surveys.
One important bit of advice, and I cannot stress this enough, is to never pay any money to join a survey site. These companies are willing to pay you for your opinions and all of these survey sites are free to join and will never ask you for any money so if you come across this, it is not legitimate.
To get you started, here are some good UK based online survey companies:
- Valued Opinions
- Global Test Market
- My Surveys
- Pinecone Research
- Opinion World
I have successfully been able to take surveys and earn enough money to cash out for all of the above sites, among many others.
I hope I have given a good overview of the online paid survey world and given some idea of what to expect if you decide to sign up to a survey company.
