Eat Healthy Eat Paleo
If you are anything like me you have all the right intentions of eating better, but your life is so hectic that you just can’t seem to find the time to make the right food choices. An easy snack takes the place of that healthy meal idea you had or the amount of time necessary to prep just becomes overwhelming. One of the easiest ways to stay on track eating Paleo is to have readily available snacks that are easy to prepare beforehand or quick to throw together in a hurry. In the following section I have provided four simple snack ideas that make eating better much less difficult
The first snack idea is for those that crave something creamy and full. This option is completely free of any dairy or processed grain and will have you feeling full and satisfied without any of the guilt.
1. Avocado and tomato on eggplant chips
- Slice eggplant into think cuts
- Bake eggplant in the oven
- Dice tomato and slice avocado to put on eggplant chips
This second snack idea borrows from a very traditional snack idea and puts a twist on it. Trail mix is easy to carry around, doesn’t need refrigerated, and can provide a nice boost of energy as a mid morning or mid afternoon snack.
2. Pumpkin Seed Trail Mix (pumpkin seed, sunflower seeds, chopped dates)
a. this mix can be put together from pre baked pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and buying pre chopped dates or chopping the date yourself. Packaging can be as simple as a plastic zip lock bag.
Again, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel to come up with great snack ideas that fit your paleo lifestyle. Almond butter is a great alternative to peanut butter and goes great with the crunchy texture of celery. You can even add extras such as raisins or figs if you want to sweeten it.
3. Celery Sticks with almond butter
a. Chop celery into strips for bite size snacks, spread almond butter on top of celery
Some of you may have made it this far thinking this was a vegetarian list, for you meat eaters this is great addition to any other combination of snacks and can be made in bulk by yourself and is easily portable. Simple jerky, dehydrated from either venison, buffalo, or beef can be very satisfying in between meals.
4. Summer Sausage or Deer Jerky
a. put strips of your preferred meat into dehydrator pre seasoned to create your own jerky snacks
