Pallet Jacks Make Lifting In the Warehouse Easier

By | Jan 17, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

There are a number of ways in which you can safely move heavy loads around a warehouse but the simplest and most effective is to use a pallet jack. These pieces of equipment may also be known as pallet trucks and are smaller versions of the better known forklifts that are possibly more commonly used on larger work floors.

Even the most basic type of pallet jack, a small hand jack is capable of lifting all types of heavy loads with relative ease. They are constructed so that they can be manoeuvred around tight corners and are capable of picking up all kinds of unusual shapes and objects.

There are a number of different types of pallet jacks available that are suitable for just about every lifting and loading job in the warehouse. Without these pieces of machinery the task of stacking and unstacking heavy items would not only be particularly difficult it would also be extremely dangerous.

The manual pallet jacks are operated through the use of a lever system that allows the operator to lift loads off of the floor or from the back of trucks with a minimum of effort. Once the load is up and off the ground these machines must then be pushed or driven until they have been positioned to the location where they can deposit it safely. It is possible to buy smaller pallet jacks with narrowly spaced blades that are capable of picking up smaller pallets and crates. Larger pallet jacks are available and are equipped with more standard blades that will slip easily into pallets as required.

A smaller pallet jack will have the capability of lifting loads weighing up to 2500kg while larger jacks can be used for the heavier loads. Other types of pallet jacks include powered jacks, outdoor pallet jacks that are capable of travelling across uneven surfaces, low profile pallet jacks and high lift pallet jacks. Although these pieces of equipment are designed to make working a safer prospect they are still pieces of heavy equipment and so it is important to use them responsibly by following the recommended safety guidelines to avoid injury.

If you are only going to operating in smaller spaces and only need to lift single pallets short distances then the manual pallet jack will be perfect for your business. Those with larger areas of operation or if there are frequent needs for lifting heavier loads that must be moved greater distances the choice is more likely going to be an electric pallet jack.
