How to Pamper Yourself to Reduce Stress
According to The US Department of Health and Human Services, Stress is the feeling you get when faced with a challenge resulting in not having the appropriate tools to manage all the demands of life. A few of the things that cause stress can be a job, family problems, divorce, marriage or death.
Some of the signs to look for that would indicate you have stress are headache, short temper, irritability, lack of focus or energy, depressed mood, poor eating habits, poor self esteem, upset stomach or general aches and pains.
Long term health problems can arise from stress without relief such as obesity, acne and skin disorders, depression, anxiety, high blood pressure and heart irregularities and stomach or digestive problems.
Stress can be relieved one way by taking time to pamper yourself with relaxation. We can't change all the stressors in our lives but, we can learn how to let go of those things and do something to help ourselves feel better. Follow these tips to learn how to pamper yourself routinely and reduce the ill effects of stress and to improve your overall health and wellness.
Things You Will Need:
- Scented candles
- Aromatherapy oils
- Skincare products
- Body care products
- Pumice stone
- Comfortable robe and slippers
- Relaxing Music
Schedule Time for Pampering
Schedule a time to be undisturbed so that you can have your personal 'me' time for an hour. Inform members of the family that you are not to be disturbed. If necessary, schedule your time when everyone else goes to sleep. This is important as a matter of good health and wellness and you must find and make the time to care for yourself.
Burn aromatherapy oils
Set the Mood
Set a relaxing mood in the bathroom. Light relaxing candles in your favorite scent. Burn lavender or orange aromatherapy oil or any other favorite scent in an oil burner using a tea light candle. Bring in a small radio or CD player to listen to relaxing music that helps you to turn off the outside world and focus on just you. Turn the lights low. Have thick, clean towels ready as well as a soft and comfortable robe and slippers.
Enjoy a stress free bubble bath
Run a warm bubble bath and soak for at least 15-20 minutes with eyes closed, focusing only on deep breathing, the scent of the candles and oil as well as the relaxing music. Feel the stress leaving your body with each deep breath. Wash your body with a favorite body cleanser and sponge or loofah to remove all the dried and dead skin cells. Use a pumice stone for all dry areas of skin on the feet. Rinse completely with clean warm water when you are done soaking, relaxing and washing.
Apply relaxing body lotions
After the relaxing bath is completed apply layers of luxurious body lotions to the whole body to keep the skin soft and supple. Pay particular attention to dry areas of elbows, knees and feet. Put on that soft and comfortable bathrobe and slippers.
Relieve stress with a facial
Pull your hair back and give yourself a pampering, relaxing facial using your cleanser, facial exfoliating scrub, toner, anti aging eye cream, anti aging serums and treatments and finish with a facial moisturizer. Do the entire face, neck and ears. Focus on deep breathing as you pamper yourself and as you feel the stress leaving your body.
Meditate or Try Yoga Exercises
Spend a few more minutes by yourself either meditating or doing a few yoga stretches to further enhance the pampering session that helps you to relax. Or try reading a favorite book before bed. All these ideas will help to reduce stress when routinely practiced.
Pamper yourself to reduce stress weekly
Pamper yourself to reduce stress by repeating these steps at least weekly. If you can find time to pamper yourself several times a week, that's even better for you. You'll sleep better, feel relaxed, more well rested and rejuvenated to handle all the pressures of life. You'll also increase the chances of remaining healthy, pain free and stress free. Enjoy your special pampering session!
