Paramedic Training, Paramedical Supplies and More

If you are looking for information about paramedical training, you have come to the right place. I will also discuss paramedical salaries as well as paramedical supplies that you may find it beneficial if you have a job in EMS. There are different levels of EMS training; paramedical training will enable you to become a paramedic, which is the highest level of prehospital care in the United States. Make sure that you do your research before choosing a paramedic program or paramedic school. The quality of the paramedical training you receive will have a heavy impact on how successful you are in your career. It is very important to have a good foundation before you begin practicing para-medicine. Many EMTs who attend paramedic school find it particularly frustrating when their instructors have different views on EMS procedures. The best advice that I have, is to be as open-minded as possible, and be willing to try different options. Sometimes, there are no clear-cut right or wrong answers; you will be required to do a lot of thinking and be able to operate independently. Your clinical decision-making skills will have a large impact on the outcome of your patients. Keep this in mind while you are attending paramedic school.

When you have completed your paramedic training, and are ready to begin your clinicals, be sure to only bring the necessary supplies that you will actually need to your clinical rotations. It is a common saying that student paramedics and other newbies in the EMS field tend to have their belt and pans loaded down with unnecessary junk. While this is humorous, I have found this to be true. Most experienced paramedics will tell you that other than a good pair of EMT boots, a penlight, and some trauma shears, most of the items you will need to perform your job will be available either in the ambulance or in your jump bag. It is understandable that one should become a paramedic, you'll probably want to purchase all sorts of cool paramedic items. Don't go crazy; you will quickly find that all of these items may not be necessary after all.

I do want to stress the importance of having a good, comfortable pair of paramedic boots. In the field of EMS, you are on your feet a whole lot. You want your boots to be comfortable, supportive and protective. You will only drop in oxygen tank or a cot wheel on your toes once before you realize how important it is to have boots that will protect your feet. You probably don't need steel toe boots, but you should certainly have a protective toe at a minimum. Additionally, assuming that you will work night shifts, you will need to be able to get your boots on and off quickly. I highly recommend that you get boots that heavy side zipper. Side zipper boots can make putting your boots on and taking them off quick and easy, which is exactly what you need, especially for those middle of the night calls when you have to get out the door quickly.

EMT pants are also something that you will need to consider. Some employers will provide their own uniform pants, while others will allow you to purchase your own pants. Make sure that the EMT pants that you purchase will allow you to bend and flex, are comfortable and are made out of stain resistant material. Depending on your preference, you may wish to purchase pants with cargo pockets, or you may prefer pants without cargo pockets. Don't be afraid to get your pants tailored to fit your unique body. The more comfortable you are, the better you will feel. It is important to look and feel your very best while serving your local community.
