Parking Solutions at Newark Liberty International Airport
The Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, New Jersey is located 15 miles away from Midtown Manhattan, and it is part of the larger Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the world's busiest airport system after London's. It includes the region's two other major international airports, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and the LaGuardia Airport (LGA). Out of these three major airports in the New York metropolitan area, Newark Liberty was the first to be built. It opened its doors in 1928 and is now the tenth busiest airport in the country, as well as the fifth busiest international gateway into the U.S,
Newark Liberty International is comprised of three large passenger terminals, with Terminal A being the largest and having a total of four different levels. EWR serves as the second largest hub for Continental Airlines. Continental occupies all of Terminal C and a fraction of Terminal A. Parking at Newark Liberty includes short, daily and long term parking, and there are also a limited number of reserved spaces for people with disabilities. A disabled persons permit or license plate has to be prominently displayed in order to park in these reserved spots.
Short term parking at EWR is conveniently located near the passenger terminals, and should definitely be used if you're there to see a loved one off or greet someone at the terminals. The rates for short term parking are $3 for the first 30 minutes, $6 for 31-60 minutes, and $3 for each additional half hour, with a max daily fee limit of $33. Daily parking is available in Parking Lots 1, 3 and 4. It's $24 a day for Parking Lots 1 and 3, and $27 a day for Parking Lot 4.
Rates for long term parking at EWR are $18 for the first 24 hours and $6 for each additional 8 hour period after that. This is relatively expensive if you consider that cheap long term airport parking at off-site lots can be as low as $8. Most independent, off-site lots near EWR provide free airport shuttle services.
