Passing the CDL License Test; Where to find A Free CDL Practice Test

Passing your CDL test opens up a world of opportunity when it comes to employment; after officially passing the CDL test, you'll be ready for the open road. Just think; no boss leaning over your shoulder, respectable paychecks, and lots of independent time on the road. CDL jobs are great! There's just one little thing left after you have completed your official CDL training, and that one little thing is the rigorous CDL license test. There is both a drive test, and a CDL written test, and you have to do very well in both in order to both pass the test and be able to brag about your score on your resume later on down the road when you are looking for work.

In my work as an employment and occupation skills coordinator, I have had many people on my caseload who have attended school for this particular training, and many people who have passed both the behind the wheel and the CDL written test. Only one person had to retake the drive portion of the test, but everyone passed the written CDL test the first time around.

Think of it this way; it can be hard to practice the drive portion of the CDL test because not many of us have a spare semi truck just hanging out in the driveway. When it comes to practicing the CDL test driving segment, people are kind of pressed to find the time and scheduling to spend lots of extra hours behind the wheel in order to get familiar with everything. The CDL written test is much different, however. You don't need anyone else or a semi truck in order to use a free CDL practice test or to spend lots of time looking over CDL test answers and questions. Doing well on the CDL written test is completely doable, and it's all going to depend on how much time you spend working to memorize all of the possible CDL test questions and possible CDL test answers out there. Not only will it bump up your chances of passing the CDL test because of exposure to the possible questions and answers, it will also help you lose some of the jitters and anxious nerves that sometimes come along with taking a test for something that is really very important to you.

Here are some tips to help you find a free CDL practice test

Look online for a free CDL practice test.
There are many different resources online when it comes to free CDL practice tests. Some will costs, but others are completely free; be sure to read the fine print before you get totally sold on one program or another. One website that I found with lots of really great resources when it comes to CDL practice test questions was www.testprepreview.com. They have many different kinds of self-assessments, including general knowledge questions covering broad areas such as safety, loading and unloading, backing up, downshifting, and much much more.

They also had a long list of specialty CDL test practice items, CDL study guides that involved all kinds of different endorsements for your license. Endorsements are fantastic because they increase your employability and can also result in an increase in pay. Some of the ones that they cover on this website are HAZMAT, passenger, doubles and triples, and school bus. Definitely check out this website if you are looking for a good CDL test study guide; all of the information I saw was free and it would be immensely helpful to anyone wanting to do well.

Look online for a smattering of sample CDL test questions.
There are many different CDL study guide websites out there, and it's a good idea to use more than one as a resource. The more exposure you get to the material before the CDL written test, the better.

Talk to your CDL school instructor about what they might have for a CDL practice test.
The teachers at the CDL school that you are coming from will very likely have some tried and true resources when it comes to CDL written test practice. Ask them for any information that they might have that they think might be useful to you passing the CDL test.

Reread everything that was given to you in print during your CDL training.
Remember all of that time that you spent in the classroom for your CDL training? All of those papers and all of those books and guides that you read can be an excellent resource when it comes to the CDL written test. Rereading everything can help refresh all of those little details that will no doubt show up on the CDL written test. The more that you see of those details before the day of the CDL test, the better. I would recommend reading all of your classroom materials again, and then moving onto actual free CDL practice test layouts. This way, you have been exposed to everything that you were taught, again, and then you will also be familiar with recalling the information, thanks to the practice test environment. This combination approach is one of the best methods that you can use in order to practice for your CDL written test.

Now that you have the CDL written test in the bag, all you have to worry about is the CDL drive test. While this portion of the test can be a little bit harder to study (again, unless you've got a couple of extra semi trucks just hanging out in the driveway!), there are certain ways around that. Many trucking schools will allow students free practice drive time directly after their graduation. If your school is not one of those more generous ones, look into practice drive time in the lots of other schools. Many trucking schools will even let graduates of other schools come into their lots (as long as they don't currently have a class going on) in order to get some time in behind the wheel. Some charge a fee for this, but a few will even do it for free.
