Pathfinder Pledge Illustrated

By Edited Feb 4, 2016 0 0

The Worldwide Pathfinder organization pledge is also short and sweet:

By the grace of God, I will be pure, and kind, and true. I will keep the Pathfinder Law. I will be a servant of God and a friend to man.

These 31 words are packed with significant meaning.

By
The first word, short as it may be, conveys the important point that Pathfinders and everyone can only do anything good with help.  "Let every soul be in subjection to the higher powers: for there is no power but of God; and the powers that be are ordained of God." Romans 13:1

the Grace of God
God is grace, giving us all His favor even though we do not deserve it.  What an amazing gift!

What a fantastic rendition of the classic hymn.

I will be

Not a statement of where you have been, but of where you are going.  As a Christian, your past is far less important than where God can take you.

pure

Living a pure life, as free of ugliness and sin as possible, is a life well lived.

and kind

This speaks to service to others, caring for other people,  An important part of Pathfindering is learning to make helping others a lifelong mission.

and true

Truth is critical to living a whole life,  Not just telling the truth to others, or refraining from lying, but being true to your convictions and true to your faith.  We should be true to ourselves as well, since there is nothing to be gained from trying to fool the person inside.

I will keep the Pathfinder Law.

By including the Pathfinder Law by direct reference Pathfinders pledge to life a life that follows this high standard.

The Law is for me to:
Keep the morning watch
Do my honest part
Care for my body,
Keep a level eye
Be courteous and obedient
Walk softly in the sanctuary,
Keep a song in my heart,
Go on God's errand.

I will be a servant of God

Again this is a future focused statement, emphasizing our submission to the divine ruler of the universe, and our very best friend.

and a friend to man.

We need to be friends to everyone, not just a few. If we are to be a witness we must see everyone as a friend we don't know yet.  So how are you being a friend to others in your life?

AY AIM: The Advent message to all the world in my generation.

The efforts of Pathfinders of all ages has lead to the Advent message reaching nearly every country in the world.  However there are plenty of people groups that do not know about Jesus yet.

AY MOTTO: The love of Christ compels me.

This comes from a verse in 2 Corinthians 5:14 "For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died."[3]

This is saying that the sinless Jesus Christ died for our sins, therefore He died for all who accept his death on the cross as the penalty for our sins.
