Perfume Allergy

By | Dec 23, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Have you ever walked through a department store and found yourself sneezing uncontrollably near the perfume sections? Maybe your eyes watered? If so, then you are not alone. Thousands, if not millions, of people suffer from a perfume allergy. Perfume allergies tend to be very common and can have a wide range of effects that go from mild and irritating to severed and potentially fatal.

But this allergy is not limited just to perfume. Since a perfume allergy is really a sensitivity to a chemical, and that chemical can be used in other scent based products, it is entirely possible that a perfume allergy can be noticed from other items like deoderant, lotions, soaps, and more.

The most common chemicals to cause an allergic reaction are acetone, cinnamyl alcohol, and benzyl. Let me reiterate that these chemicals are found in many scent based products and it can be very difficult to find similar products without these chemicals.

Considering these chemicals can be used in different kinds of products, the symptoms can vary depending on how the body comes into contact with the allergen. Lotion and soap products, for example, can cause a rash or skin irritation to appear. Often the skin irritation is itchy or painful. If the chemicals are inhaled, they can cause sneezing, wheezing, running eyes, and more.

Nausea is not uncommon, and even more frightening is the fact that anaphylactic shock is a very real threat. That's right, simply walking through the perfume section can actually put someone's life at risk if they happen to have a perfume allergy.

If you notice an adverse reaction to soaps, lotions, perfumes, colognes, or other similar items, then it is imperative, for your own health, that you see a doctor as soon as possible. Allergies are not something to mess with, and if you truly have an allergy to chemicals, then your life could be at risk and you would be wise to seek the help of a professional. Failing to do so could result in severe health problems or even death. Don't take any risks if you really believe you may have a perfume allergy.
