Wow! What a great word! I just love this powerful expression. There's just so much packed into it. But what does it mean to have this virtue? What is it to persevere? Can we, in our daily lives, contain the fundamental qualities of perseverance? I think so. But that depends upon you.

So what is the basic definition of this term? Perseverance stands for many things, but mostly it is a noun that represents a steadfastness or firmness to stand within the midst of difficulties and trials. To get a better idea for the term perseverance, here are a few synonyms:

  • Determination
  • Endurance
  • Steadfastness
  • Diligence
  • Dedication
  • Tenacity
  • Commitment

These words (and I hate to simply call them words, they are so much more) prove character true. They are a set of virtues that not many people have today. And perseverance is truly shown forth in its own definition. You can't really see perseverance in action when things are going well. But as soon as trials and tribulations come, perseverance shines some. But it's beautiful when it does. And it provides the owner with success in many areas of life.

"Life is utterly filled with failure after failure. Keep trying anyway, the sweet taste of success makes it worth every last second." - Anonymous

"The test of a true entrepreneur is just DOING until you find the solutions to your problems. You never stop, you never give up, and you NEVER quit!" - Anonymous

"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence and Determination. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." – Calvin Coolidge

"I deal with rejection by persisting, not by taking my business elsewhere. My maxim comes from Samuel Beckett, a personal hero of mine: 'Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.' You won't believe what you can accomplish by attempting the impossible with the courage to repeatedly fail better." – Adam Gottesfeld in The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss

This is the time for you and I to grow. When these times of suffering come, what are we going to say? How are we going to act? I've got 2 daughters and one on the way. What am I going to say to them? I know I won't be a man if I can't tell them I stood up in the face of trials and conquered. They won't trust me. They won't feel safe and protected. So I better act now. I better make perseverance a part of the very core of my being.

So take this challenge with me. We're in this together. We'll be the people who see the dawn, even though it is black all around us. We will not listen to common thought. We must not. We must persist. We must continue. We must persevere!
