Personal Branding - Decide how the World looks at you!

If you have been in business and have worked to develop your company somehow, then you must have come across the term Personal Branding. If you are a beginner and are trying to construct a good brand image of your company, on or off the internet, the first thing you have to know about is how to create your own, individual brand.

Personal Branding, individual branding or self-positioning, whatever you call it, is actually a process whereby individuals and sometimes their careers, are set as brand. It is often mistaken to be similar to self-help management technique; however, personal branding is a wider concept, which primarily suggests that success comes from self packaging.

If you want your business to be in a positive light, branding your company alone will not help; you will need to create such an asset into the market that will pertain to you as an individual brand. This may include your appearance, clothing, body and knowledge contained within, which will make an indelible impression on people and will make you uniquely distinguishable from all your competitor brands.

Management Guru Tom Peters once said that,” We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called YOU.”

It is how you articulate your unique vale proposition, it can be personal or professional, and leverage it over a platform, with an image and a consistent message to accomplish a desired goal. This will ensure you greater credibility, good reputation and will elevate your confidence level.

The world will not always see you positively; it is always going to have one or the other opinion about you. Here, you have to influence them intentionally, so that the world sees you the way you want. You can start with handful of good qualities that you want to be known for and just focus on them. People are not going to remember everything about you, so it is better that you prioritize the main elements of your brand instead of many. Also, you must be prepared enough about what you want to convey to the audience and come across it effectively, rather convincingly. This can work as an ‘elevator statement’ for you and will eventually help you express your brand in a better way.

The final and the most important step would be enhancing and connecting your personal brand with your company’s online reputation. Taking a quick audit of your profile online and few adjustments that reflects your personal brand’s element will do the rest and you will have more control over your online identity.
