Pet Dog Health Care Advice

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

If you own a pet dog, then you most likely treat them just like one of the family. Dogs can provide unconditional love, loyal companionship, stress relief and even an exercise partner. The benefits of our four-legged, furry canine friends are quite advantageous. Keeping your dog healthy should be a top priority for your pet. In this article, you'll find several habits you should definitely make sure to practice regularly so that your dog will stay happy and avoid common dog health problems.

First and foremost, you should make it a habit to have your pet dog checked out at the local veterinarian on a regular basis. Dogs must be registered with tags in the state they are living in, and must also have specific vaccinations against rabies and other problems. Most veterinarian offices will require specific shots and vaccinations regularly, and will send reminder cards in the mail for your pet dog. It's a good practice to take your dog at least 3 times a year if possible. Report any possible issues you may be noticing, and see what suggestions the veterinarian has. Some dogs suffer from flea and tick problems, dog allergies, physical ailments and other various conditions. Regular visits to the veterinarian will help to effectively deal with these issues.

The next habit you should make is to regularly perform grooming and bathing for your pet dog. Dogs tend to get into lots of dirt and grime when you have them outside, or take them on walks. They can became grounds for fleas and ticks. Bathing them regularly will keep your dog clean and help to reduce the flea and tick problem. Combing out their hair and removing clumps or matting will also help the dog's health. You'll also want to regularly clip their nails, although some dogs absolutely hate this. Despite their protesting or dislike, you'll be doing your dog a great service by trimming their nails, combing out hair and bathing them.

Another habit to make with your dog, that many people neglect is to make sure your dog receives regular exercise. Many people assume because dogs are free to roam about their house or in the yard, they're getting enough exercise. However, it's a great idea to take your dog on walks at least once a day, and 2-3 times a day if at all possible. The walks can be as short as 10 minutes each, but if you can get in 3, the dog will be getting a half hour of good exercise. This helps keep the dog's weight at a healthy level, and may even improve your dog's behavior. Dogs who get regular exercise may be less likely to act out or have poor behavior in the home, and will sleep better at night.

Keeping your dog healthy will translate into making your dog a happier animal. Practice the advice and habits here regularly. You'll find that your pet dog will have more energy and may behave better as well. Dogs show us their unconditional love quite often, so it's an excellent idea to return that love in the gift of their health.
