Pet Friendly House Alarms
The housing alarm and security industry is worth billions each year. Not least because we all want to protect the contents of our homes against burglary and vandalism, but also because we value our own personal security too. For this reason is seems that people are prepared to spend that cash when it comes to housing alarms. Nobody wants to wake up to find someone in their home!
Many of these alarm systems are sensory. That is to say that they detect movement. Anyone with pets will know just how inconvenient that can be, when the entire household is woken up a 4am on a rainy Monday morning because Toby the little black Labrador puppy wanted a drink, or because Tabatha the cat fancied stretching her legs a little. Now obviously the most in your face solution to this problem is simply to not use alarm systems in your home that rely upon motion detection. But these sensory based systems actually do offer added piece of mind to some people and it seems entirely unfair that those with pets should have to compromise on their personal and home security in order to keep their four legged friends.
Well, thankfully there is now a real solution that requires no such compromise in your home alarm. This comes in the form of pet friendly motion sensor based systems, which work as other motion sensor systems do... except that they won’t go off just because your dog is having an overnight wander around your living room. From in the region of $300 you can pick one of these up. Generally, the more expensive, the more features and more area it will cover.
It seems that most of these systems work based on the weight of your animal. Household pets being substantially lighter than humans (in theory at least, maybe you have a dog that gorges on McDonalds), the alarm is not triggered. It seems, reading around, that the bulk of these systems set the trigger weight at 20kg, which equates t0 44lbs. Of course, if you had a particularly small (or even child) burglar, then you might there to be a flaw in this otherwise nifty system.
You can pick these systems up from a number of places online. The prices vary from merchant to merchant and, as such, it is worth shopping around before spending a thing. It’s also worth mentioning, just in case you are someone who has only recently had a system installed and does not yet want to change but would like the pet friendly feature, that some of the bigger alarm manufacturers are actually releasing add-ones for their existing systems. These add-ons would allow you to simply extend the features of your current set up, without having to change the whole thing. Enquire with your manufacturer about whether this is a possibility for your own home alarm system. If nothing is available yet, then keep checking as manufacturers are updating their add-ons and features all the time.
If you are looking into buying a new pet friendly alarm system, I would highly recommend shopping around online in the first instance to see what is available. If you then do want to buy from a retailer you visit in person, at least you are armed with the information about prices and so on.
As always, with any substantial purchase, it’s also worth checking out what the independent reviewers have had to say about them. Check out consumer websites and read as much feedback from non-affiliated consumers as you can in order to establish a balanced opinion and idea as to the system’s quality. Don’t make an impulse purchase when it comes to home alarms.
