Picking Footwear for an Active Vacation

By Edited Apr 26, 2014 0 0

The pair of shoes that you choose to travel with can determine the outcome of your vacation. You probably have limited luggage space and need to pack light. At the same time, you still want stylish pieces. Even if you are going to be in the city, tourists usually do a lot of sightseeing and shopping. Look around at shops like FootSmart or Finish Line to get shoes that meet all of your needs.

Weather Considerations

One of the first things that you'll need to take into account is the weather in the new location. You might want to go with an orthopedic version of a sandal if you plan on doing lots of walking. This usually provides extra support around the ankle and has several straps.

Riding boots are stylish and comfortable at the same time. Break in whatever shoes you choose before your vacation to make sure they're comfortable enough to take. Boots keep you warm, but you can make them work well with an active lifestyle with a memory foam footbed or insole.

Sports Shoes

You might have a hiking trip planned, or you just want to keep up with your fitness routine while you travel. Choose a material that is easy to clean like rubber or polyurethane. This is going to help out a lot when you go to repack the items, especially if you have several stops planned on your trip.

Athletic shoes can be functional and stylish. Try a Mary Jane version that still has a supportive rubber sole. Mesh is a breathable fabric that adds a two tone effect. Running shoes can have slight cutouts, which make them work well for several weather eventualities. Canvas shoes can go from a fitness routine to sightseeing.

Fashionable Comfort

Walking shoes can keep up with the trends. You can use slip on style shoes for an on the go lifestyle. Some woven leather shoes will stretch for comfort. You can also find a removable footbed if your feet expand in the heat.

You can usually only take a limited number of items on a trip. Your wardrobe will need to work in a variety of situations from day to evening. It can be helpful to go with a neutral color walking shoe that will match all different kinds of outfits. A ballet flat can even go with a dress or a pair of jeans. A flat will seem more fashion forward with a metallic sheen like pewter or silver.

Men's Shoes

Men's casual shoes can work for a variety of purposes, from working out to going out on the town. This is a great option for travel because you may only need one or two shoes for the entire trip. Boat shoes incorporate several colors of leather on one shoe so it coordinates with everything in your suitcase. The same shoe could match a navy, white or brown outfit. It also has lacing and stitching detail for interest. Men's low boots have the comfort of a moccasin, but with a sleek and contemporary style.
