Picking the Perfect Chair for Fishing
What sort of fishing do you do? Are you a specimen hunter, pleasure angler or a match fisherman? You might do all three of these types of fishing but before you part with your hard earned money you really need to ask your self what sort of fishing do I do the most of?
Each of these types of fishing are very different and as such will have a bearing on the type of chair that you choose. Let's take a look at what each type of angler needs from a fishing chair:
The specimen hunter
This type of angler spends a long time at the water edge just waiting for that one fish, so comfort is absolutely paramount. Weight is not so much of an issue because they will normally drive to where they are fishing and will have that much kit anyway that a chair is going to make little difference. Durability is also going to play a big part in the choice of chair – it's going to get many hours of use so it will need to stand the test of time.
The pleasure angler
The pleasure angler will not be so keen to part with the amount of money that specimen hunter would for their chair. Although a specimen hunter fishes for pleasure, the pleasure angler will only fish when they have the time and won't make the time as a full on specimen hunter would. A pleasure angler may also walk or cycle to where they are fishing so a compact and cost effective fishing chair is essential. The chair will not get heavy use so durability will not be as important as that of lightness.
Match Anglers
Match anglers already have a lot of equipment, spend short but intense four or five hour stints at the waters edge and have a limit on time. Speed, efficiency and compactness are everything so more often than not the perfect chair for match fisherman is a seat box - they need to carry a box with all of their tackle in it anyway so it makes perfect sense to turn that box in to something that they can sit on too.
As you can see the demands put on a chair are very different for each type of fishing and I doubt that you will find a chair that satisfies all three of these types of anglers needs. Defining the type of fishing that you do the most of, will guide you to buying the perfect fishing chair for your needs.
