Picking the Right Weight Lifting Gloves

By | Jun 24, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

If you're lifting heavy weights, especially with barbells and dumbbells, a pair of weight lifting gloves can possibly increase the amount of weight that you can lift and even help to protect your hands. However, if you want this to happen, you need to pick out the right gloves for the job. Here are a few tips on how to pick out the best weight lifting gloves.

Weight lifting gloves help you out in the gym because they take some of the pressure off of your hands. While you will always want to have the muscle growth in your hands and forearms keep up with the rest of your body, they are biologically smaller muscles and are thus more prone to tiring sooner and not being able to lift as much. Lifting gloves allow you to still get a forearm workout while you're holding the bar, but also makes it much easier to get a grip. This means your forearms won't get tired as easily and you may even be able to grab more weight.

Weight lifting gloves men use may also help you if you're worried about keeping your hands free of calluses. While they may not be a problem for some lifters, many people are bothered by the appearance of hardened calluses on their hands. Since gloves take a lot of the pressure off of your hands, calluses take a longer time to form and won't be as thick and rough as they otherwise would.

Now that you know the benefits of using gloves, here is how to choose the best one for you. First and foremost, the glove has to fit, so make sure that you know your glove size. If the glove fits poorly you will actually be putting more pressure on your hands and more likely to get calluses. Not only will you be uncomfortable the whole time, they might cause you to lift less weight. Make sure that you can always either try your gloves on or buy them online from a merchant that has a good return policy.

Next, look at the material the gloves are made out of. Leather and neoprene gloves are the best in terms of durability and grip. Most people will opt for neoprene gloves because they are more breathable, but others will sometimes opt for leather gloves because they are more durable. The choice is yours and depends on what you are comfortable with.

Finally, the gloves should have an adjustable wrist wrap. This will make sure that the glove fit properly and that you don't cut off circulation to your hands while you are using them.

Hopefully this has helped you to find a pair of weight lifting gloves that will help you to increase the amount you lift and protect your hands.
